15. Yes- it is true
I read about this in a Newsweek a long time back. He was marrying 10-14 year old girls, perhaps younger.

He may have had sex with young women, probably out of some belief in Biblical law, rather than the laws of men. If I am correct, he would have seen himself as a patriarch much like Mormon polygamists. He probably figured "old enough to bleed...."

All I can say is that I listened to him at the PBS website - actual interviews with him. He was one of the most knowledgable biblical scholars I have heard. He knew multiple ancient languages in support of these studies, probably Greek and Hebrew.

Randi Rhodes makes him out to be a monster, but there is another view that can be taken - that he was writing his vision of the 5th seal of the apocalypse as per his agreememnt with the feds.

His sect (100 year old, not started by him) had the identity of being the sect to witness the seals of the apocalypse. He was going to come out, but not without getting his message out. They made a deal for him to write down what he wanted to communicate, but the feds got bored too quickly and 80 people were killed as a result.

10. Also, Koresh Was Accessible On The Street
Never forget it was under BUSH SENIOR that the Feds raided the compound filled with women & children rather than pick Koresh up on the street.

14. koresh was always always always armed in public.
there was no way to take him without risking the lives of anyone in public.

And the point was to serve a search warrant, not just arrest him.

7. Biography link + tapes
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/waco/davidkoresh.html

I see an error though "Koresh is a Hebrew transliteration of Cyrus, the name of the Persian king who allowed the Jews held captive in Babylon to return to Israel"

He says in the interview that Koresh is Hebrew for the sound of the last breath. So it means "death."

Here is the main link that I looked into several years ago - there's audio there.

8. This is from two days before the massacre.
FRIDAY, APRIL 16:
KORESH tells negotiators that he has completed the manuscript on the First Seal. RENO rejects the tear gas plan, according to what RICHARD says HUBBELL told him. SESSIONS, CLARKE, and POTTS hurry to HUBBELL's office, and SESSIONS asks to speak with RENO. Ten minutes later HUBBELL returns with RENO, who orders a written statement "describing the situation inside the compound, the progress of negotiations, and the merits" of the plan, plus supporting documentation for all factual assertions.

9. Yes, that is what lead to the police inquiry into the
"compound." Child Protective Services was called out to investigate allegations of sexual abuse by David K. against girls. He would not let them in, so they called, the cops, ....

11. from Salon: The Truth About Waco
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 09:37 PM by Must_B_Free
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/09/09/waco/index1.html

"Maybe the most disturbing allegation, to those inside the building, was that we were engaging in child abuse there. The children of Mount Carmel were treasured, and they were a vital part of our small society. A disgruntled former resident, Marc Breault, was the original source of complaints about the treatment of children, and his wild allegations -- that we were planning to sacrifice one of our children on Yom Kippur one year -- were unfounded. Yes, occasionally kids were paddled for misbehaving, but the strict rule was they could never be paddled in anger. The parents usually did the paddling themselves. A few former residents also complained that David paddled their children, harshly, but I never saw that, and the Texas Child Protective Services workers who investigated the complaints concluded they were unfounded."

gets interesting:

"There are other questions: Why did the FBI call the local hospital hours before the siege and ask how many beds were available in its burn unit? Why did it not equip the tanks with a firefighting agent that would have put the flames out quickly? What did the FBI negotiator mean when he threateningly told us we "should buy some fire insurance"? Why did the FBI not allow anyone access to the crime scene for several hours, despite an agreement with the Texas Rangers that they would be allowed to inspect the area first? And on and on."

17. Interesting that you are so defensive of Koresh
I'm not suggesting that you are a Freeper (not at all), but I do find your position shocking in light of the facts.

Koresh was not a victim. He ordered his men to open fire on the agents. He broke the law and refused to accept service of a criminal complaint. He also is known to have molested the many young girls who occupied the compound.

The tapes the agents put on the milk crates also showed that he torched the compound himself, if I remember correctly.

13. Several years BEFORE koresh had himself killed I SAW the 60
minutes interview with his giggling daughters saying how their god told them to lay with their daddy and have his babies.

I SAW it.

Myself.

18. I guess we'll never really know. Another uninvestigated tragedy, like
9-11 and the Federal building bombing in OK. Thank goodness they executed the "lone bomber" before the government could be implicated.
