I like this draft talk
I want this draft talk to continue. There is NO WAY in hell that a freeper would vote for Bush if Bush comes out and makes this a large campaign issue. Of course, I'm still assuming that Kerry, like Clark, would be 100% opposed to this. I'm 18 and this affects me tremendosly.

1. So you believe someone else should fight for your country?
Someone poor perhaps, or foreign born, or with less hope of a good life?

3. I never said that
I'm not going to lose my blood for oil. NO WAY IN HELL. We have volunteers for our army and they are doing a tremendous job. I didn't make any mention of their backgrounds pal. A volunteer army is a horrific idea.

5. But it's okay then

7. Stop putting words into my mouth.
I NEVER said, or implied, that. Every soldier should be brought home. This war is turning into a quagmire, and the average American Joe 6 Pack can't see that. I'm not fighting. I'll run to Canada---this blows because I want a job in politics to HELP this nation.

9. Is it OK to force people into the blood for oil meat grinder?
because if it isn't then neither is a draft

10. Ya know they did VOLUNTEER
so there are some expectations that they'll go wherever called upon. Granted, most weekend warriors didnt think theyd be serving any time, but shit happens. It's horrible and tragic, and that's why the best idea would probably be to bring them home.

13. Yeah, I'm arguing against conscription
I am also arguing against this war in general. Let's do what Americans do best, bring the troops home and forget that the whole thing ever happened. It worked for Nam after all

2. Kerry will support it sorry but it's inevitable now that the shrub
has us locked in mortal combat with every Muslim nation on earth and is pissing off more each day.

16. I have a draft age son
He is 18 and a freshman in college. His father was Navy combat vet, his adotive father, my ex died when my son was 14, is a Vietnam combat vet, his grandfather is a Korean combat vet and my son wants to go into the military when he graduates from college as an officer. He "thinks" he might someday want to run for office of some sort. He is a history major so he can go into law someday, he thinks serving his country is appropriate for those who want to hold a public office. He has been in CAP (civil air patrol which is part of the USAF) since he was 11, I would prefer that he didn't go into the military but it is his choice, "CHOICE" that is the key word here, I do not want my son's education to be interrupted by the draft and by the same token I do not feel that just because a parent can afford to pay tuition that their child should get a deferment. If there is a draft then everyone should be required to go, I would hope that those that choose education could postpone their "draft" date until they graduate. I don't think education should allow you to be exempt just postponed if your number comes up. Obviously I would prefer that military force not be needed, but like some have said in another post "stupid old men make decision that require young men to serve".

4. Talk about the draft could
hurt Kerry especially if he is forced to take a public a stand on it. That would be just what the chimp regime would like to happen, whichever side Kerry took would hurt him.

12. Actually heavily armed 6 year olds should fight the wars
less resources have been invested in the very young. 18 year olds have already received 12 years of costly education. And a low age for soldiers would dramatically lower the time needed to create a truly massive army.

8. We need to get a mostly Arabic UN force on ground in Iraq
Once Iraqis are having their resources stolen and Iraqis are getting the jobs rebuilding their country, nobody's blood will be getting spilled.

22. Won't happen
For one, no Arab country wants to be seen as America's "Uncle Ahmed" (even if they are). Second, the corporate interests are too deeply entrenched now. Don't expect to see the war profiteers, erm...I mean private security contractors, go anywhere if Kerry is elected. They're stayin put.

11. I was 18 once, if they decide they need you ?
I enlisted in the USMC. No mercy for me , I got what I asked for. But I will never forget the induction cerimony as quite a number of draftees were being assigned to the MARINES. This was the summer of 1967. You have no idea what can happen to you. ...Oscar

18. I don't want no damn draft, but the discussion is very healthy to have
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 08:33 PM by NNN0LHI
It wakes some people up to the reality of just how precious life is. It also highlights to the pro-war nuts that there can be some very dramatic and deadly effects due to starting and supporting a war based on lies.
