"Slam dunk" says Tenet
Did that mean, slam dunk that WMD were there, or slam dunk that they could sell their scam? You get the idea that as in so many other cases Tenet just told Smush what he wanted to hear, and in doing so signal that he could carry the big lie if he could just please keep his job.

1. Strange, don't you think?
I don't recall Tenet as being much of a cheerleader for the Iraq War. In fact, he seemed AWOL on it...except for leaks that indicated the CIA didn't think there was much evidence to support Bush's thesis.

3. Tenet taking the fall
Bear in mind that Woodward - as far as I can tell, obviously not having read the book yet - appears to be relying almost entirely on discussions with top-level administration officials, held relatively recently, for his information. I'm not saying Tenet was or wasn't being accurate in his depiction of that meeting, but it's very possible they'd circled the wagons and decided how not to have Bush take the fall. I had that feeling during some of Rice's testimony, too- that she went out of her way to mention scenarios in which Bush sounded good, in a kind of contrived way.

2. My impression was
it meant that they were certain there were WMD's.

Someone ought to slam-dunk his head in a toilet.
