Even republicans are getting upset
This is from the New York Daily News letters to the editor in todays paper.

Check out the last letter from a former Bush supporter.

Who's he kidding?
Hackensack, N.J.: For President Bush to say he doesn't pay attention to polls is utter nonsense. If he didn't, Condi Rice would not have testified before the 9/11 commission and the 9/11 commission never would have been called.
Alan Fischer

Watch your back
Richmond Hill: Now that Bush is in trouble, how long do you think before he throws Condoleezza Rice to the wolves? As a black man, I hope soon.
Stephen James

Good question
Manhattan: If the WMDs really do exist, why aren't the insurgents in Iraq using them against the Americans right now? Who are they afraid of at this point, Saddam?
Suzanne Cunningham

Duped
Manhattan: I'm a Republican, and I'm shocked at the lack of attention paid to President Bush's startling admission that we were going to Iraq, WMDs or not, imminent threat or not. We were going to Iraq to install a pro-U.S. democracy, even if there were no WMDs. I would not have supported this. Nation-building is a job for the UN, and it for sure, will sit back and let us reap what we have sown. I feel grossly misled.
Andrew Williams

Lets hope he is not the only one.

1. my dad
is a hard-core paleo republican. He's not religious, but he believes in US isolationism, small government, "traditional" values, etc., and he told me this weekend that there was no way in hell he is pulling the lever for Bush this November. Trust me, Bush is toast.

2. My Dad is a Conservative too~
And he really developed a loathing of Clinton...

But he doesn't like Bush at all and won't vote for him again. Since he and I have had some heated political discussions, I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!!!

7. We still have to hope that there are enough ...
and that they will decline to vote for Dubya. True, in normal elections, Dems could go after swing voters and ignore far-right Republicans. But with BBV and GOP dirty tricks, we need more. After all, we won in 2000 but needed more that we didn't have.

5. That's right.
If WMD's do exist, why haven't they used them against the US forces?

6. even me
I'll admit it, i'm a republican (don't get mad) and i'm angry with Bush. I didn't vote for him in 2000 and don't plan on voting for him in november. (i voted for mccain and then gore) bush and co. far-right religious agenda is alienating many of us moderate libertairian conservatives like myself. bush has no interest in the citizens who foolishly voted for him. my only hope is that kerry won't pander to the extreme elements of his party like bush has.

also, since this is my first post, and i guess i am the enemy :) i'd like some feed back on kerry's policies. i'm still a bit shaky on whether or not he's a good choice. thanks

8. johnkerry.com
You'll get lots of varying opinions around here. And there's a forum at johnkerry.com where you'll get totally different varying opinions, haha! The Kerry forum welcomes everybody. DU is for Democrats, which I like very much. Although sometimes I get confused about which forum I'm at because some days the left sounds exactly like the right! But there's lots of info at the Kerry web site for you to consider.

9. Well ... first:
Welcome to DU ....

Since Kerry seems to piss off many 'leftists', he is actually positioned well to capture the 'middle' moderate and centrist independants and disenchanted GOPers, like yourself ....

I consider myself 'leftist' on social issues, and moderate on national security, military and fiscal issues ...

Your right: I dont think Kerry will 'pander' to extremist positions, but I do hope (and expect) he will be attractive to the CENTER of the electorate, and faithful to core Democratic values ...

11. Welcome!!

You'll find things you agree with here, and other things you don't, but hopefully everyone is pretty tolerant.

12. Far as I'm concerned, if you want Bush gone - you're no enemy of mine
You will find many different opinions on Kerry here. I'd start out by going to his web site and read his positions on various issues
www.johnkerry.com

Also, you may want to try this little test to see exactly where you fit politically and see how you match up with Kerry on specifics. Instead of just being a straight line liberal --- conservative, it's a graph that has four quads - liberal, conservative, libertarian, and whatever the heck the opposite of that is. I was in the lower left quad which was liberal/libertarian.

Anyhoo, here's the url

http://www.politicalcompass.org/

You may find that you're REALLY not a republican.

Have fun

13. Hi Betty_Boop
I USED to be a republican but the GOP party left me. I have been a democrat for a few years now and realize that I should have been a democrat all my life. I continually talk with my republican friends in hopes of enlightening them. If you've ever heard the saying "there's nothing worse than a former cigarette smoker in convincing a smoker to quit"....well, I am that way about politics and have a couple of my republican friends moving over to the dem's side.... The Bush administration is way too far right wing for even moderate republicans. Welcome to DU.

14. thanks
i'll look into that.

kerry is looking more and more like presidential material, he has a poise about him that commands respect and honor, something bush seems to lack

and i know DU is for democrats :) but some of those republican sites get alittle tiresome and i need a break sometimes

16. betty
you sound like you are tempted to put the interests of America over the interests of the republican party. That makes you OK in my book. :hi:
