Mike Oxley (R-Oh) called me "misinformed" today.
Mike was talking to our (high school) student body today, and he made the mistake of asking for questions from the audience.

In his speech he rambled off, he said how his Comittee in Congress had "cracked down" on Corporate crime, and was "tough" on corporate crooks.

He called on me first, and I said that was kinda funny, considering people saw Enron-like problems coming in the 90's, and wanted reform. Mike, who was showered with gifts and money from the accounting industry, said otherwise...and he squashed reform ideas in his comittee, which oversees the SEC.

So then Enron hit. And he still opposed it, but when more started breaking out, he suddenly changed his tune and rammed his own bill down Congress' throat, which was a step in the right direction, but we needed more. When Democrats introduced a tougher bill, he killed it in comittees.

He just stood there, looking for me to continue, I said, "You've accepted 8 million dollars from corporations since '81 when you were elected. How can you call yourself 'tough' on corporate crime?"

He was definitely caught off guard. He stuttered around for a few seconds, fidgeted, said I was minsinformed and questioned my source, and then rambled off part of his speech again. He got embarrassed, and he knew it too.

Couple of kids asked about Iraq. My friend asked about a draft, Oxley said he doubt one would be reinistated. It was just a bunch of GOP-half-truths and spin.

My one friend, who's a Republican and knows I'm a die-hard Kucitizen, said, "What do you think of Dennis Kucinich? Does he have any good points?"

to which Oxley replied, "Give me a few days to think about that, and then I'll get back to you."

============

It was pretty funny. A few teachers told me what a good job I did, and how off-guard he was. I always take pleasure in ambushing Mike when he comes around. :)

7. Zap!
Good job - I bet he wasn't expecting trouble at a high school! He should. Everyone one of the those bastards should be getting grilled at high schools, coffee shops, and nursing homes.

Funny - corrupt bastard probably doesn't even know how much he has collected from corps.

12. Blue Knight Carries on Truth Squad Tradition. Bravo!
Good for you, Blue Knight! You're carrying on an old but disused Democratic tradition--following Republican politicos around and ambushing them with awkward questions backed up by facts, figures, and sources. We Democrats, regardless of our different tendencies, need to get back to doing neat old stuff like that. You're carrying on in a fine old tradition.

Bravo!
