Former President Carter to be tried for peace crimes
"Jimmy Carter's political career includes a laundry list of anti-war-making offenses," said chief prosecutor Charles B. Simmons. "Carter's record of benevolence, diplomacy, and respect for human life is unrivaled in recent geopolitical history. For millions, the very sight of his face evokes memories of his administration's reign of tolerance."

1. It's about time!
He's been promoting peaceful solutions to problems for nearly 30 years now. The article doesn't mention that his grain embargo destroyed the Soviet economy, ensuring the fall of the Iron Curtain. And he did it to protest a war of all things!
This character must be taken off the streets before anyone else goes unharmed!

6. That's right! Thanks for pointing this out.
People tend to forget this and give the credit to Reagan. This is a shame. They also tend to forget about Iran-Contra and Oliver North's perjury. He actually did bring peace to the Middle East, but was only belatedly recognized for this amazing accomplishment. I believe that history will be kind to President Jimmy Carter. Obviously, he's a favorite of mine.:-)

9. I cried the day Carter left office and Regan was sworn in...
Carter was a kind and gentle man with integrity. As he and wife Rosalind stood across from the Regans while the oath was given the contrasts were startling.

The Carters were not flashy or monied. Nancy whose lifted face with its perpetual doe-eyed appearance wore designer duds from head to toe and gazed wondrously at her love, "Ronny" the empty headed ex-actor.

I knew we were in trouble the day of that inauguration and I was right. Regan ushered in difficult times for the country.

Carter was the president who actually brought us the kindler, gentler nation that Bush was only able to talk about.

10. I agree with you. Carter was my personal favorite, obviously,
and he is still doing good works. I have read about how he is probably too accessible to the people. He has his picture taken with all the tourists who flock to Plains.

I am sorry that you cried. I knew that we were in trouble once Reagan was sworn in, as we are in trouble today. Bush* has, unfortunately, brought back all the Reagan hard-liners that his own father threw out.

There was a post not long ago that asked if Carter could run again. I know he wouldn't consider it, but it's nice to imagine.:-)

there is nothing worse than a President that not only enforces the law, but who actually obeys it.

But of course, don't expect a pardon, these are reserved for the Bush Pioneers who raise the most money. If you provide the money, you too can be a patriot!

3. Peace is a dangerous concept in PNAC's PAX America
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 10:00 PM by protect freedom impe
PEACE.

THE One word that sends spine tingling shivers down
the right-wing Republicons bodies of oil.

Cant make BILLIONS and BILLIONS of war profits that
way.

Death & destruction is the biggest money maker for
The BUSH CRIME FAMILY. Its even better than ripping
off American energy consumers with rigged energy
markets by Bush's best buddy Kenny Boy.

The Carlyle Group make MILLIONS & MILLIONS with war.
Ha;iburton makes MILLIONS & MILLIONS with war.

Those ill gotten profits THEN are re-cycled BACK
into the political campaigns of rt-wing Congressional
thugs who are stooges for the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.

Death is Profitable to Repugs' corporations.
War profiteers.

PEACE ? What a dangerous concept to Conservatives !

5. Leave to the "media types" at the Onion to slant the news.
Typically, they leave out important information the public needs to know. What they don't tell you is that one of Carter's many so-called "doctrines" led to the creation of a little-known federal agency in 1977, the Energy Research and Development Adminstration. One of this agency's main objectives was reducing US dependence on oil from war-torn and volatile regions of the world. With Carter, it's fair to say that foresight is always 20-20. Although ERDA enjoyed promising initial successes, it's plug was quickly pulled by the succeeding President, leaving the US vulnerable to embargo and foreign wars.

As usual with the "PC" Onion, the news you need is the news you don't get.
