Gorelick Ignored Terror Warnings, Ex-FBI Chief Says
Just so you know what is COMING tomorrow. Full frontal-expect to see a " I told YOU" clip over and over tomorrow.

In her first year as deputy U.S. attorney general in the Clinton administration, Sept. 11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick was warned that lax U.S. immigration policies made the U.S. a tempting target for terrorists, former FBI Director Louis Freeh revealed on Monday, suggesting that Gorelick did little to remedy the situation.

"Protecting our homeland from attacks by foreign terrorists had long been the FBI's priority," said Freeh in a lengthy Wall Street Journal op-ed piece.

"Back in September 1994, I recommended to Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick that the DoJ strengthen investigative powers against suspected 'undesirable aliens,' accelerating deportation appeal proceedings and limiting U.S. participation in a visa waiver pilot program under which 9.5 million foreigners entered the U.S. in 1994."

TESTING U.S. INTELLIGENCE
Some counterterrorism operatives now speculate that intelligence picked up by U.S. agencies about possible terrorist attacks on Americans last June may actually have been leaked by operatives associated with bin Laden. Now it appears the terrorists “may have been testing where and how we picked up information—and what were the things we missed,” says a U.S. investigator based in the Persian Gulf. “They saw where we reacted, and presumably also where we didn’t react.” Were they casing American airports to see if extra precautions went into effect? “They not only know how to plan, but they know how to test,” said this source, “and they know, obviously, where the gaps are.”

Among the worst of those gaps is the ramshackle state of security checks at U.S. airports. The ability of unknown bombers to exploit these soft spots—and to do it so jarringly, ripping a hole in the heart of America’s financial and military power—could itself have serious consequences. For it demonstrates that it can be done again. In fact, terrorism experts say that for years their worst fear has been that a suicide bomber would hit inside U.S. borders. “If someone really wants to kill himself in order to blow up a building here, there is no level of sustainable security in this country that could prevent it,” says one official. “We just aren’t equipped to handle it. It is beyond us psychologically. And the citizens of this country are not willing to tolerate the lack of freedom that this level of security would mean.”

4. Is it true her firm represents the Saudi Royals?
Edited on Mon Apr-12-04 08:01 PM by gmoney
Heard that Gorelick's current firm is defending the Saudi Royals in the civil suit brought against them by 9/11 families...

When did the term "conflict of interest" lose its meaning in DC? Geesh...

6. I just read this
Commissioner Jamie S Gorelick is very close to CIA director George Tenet. No wonder: she works on the CIA's National Security Advisory Panel, as well as on the president's Review of Intelligence. Tenet is one of the masterminds of the Bush administration "war on terror". This means no chance for the commission to investigate dubious covert operations by the CIA which may foment terrorism instead of fighting it.

Could be that the kids might of moved out.
Such, if that is the story, maybe she has turned into being a fulltime Spook that is trying to raise hell on the rest of the world :scared:

11. So the RW picks a Dem to trash
Ulterior motives anyone? I don't think it will work. Every Commissioner knows they are next for the attacks. They need a unanimous report.

I'm still holding out hope they will succumb to history. This report will leave their legacy. Do they really want to be known as partisan hacks?
