DAMN Lou Dobbs was just kicking ass on CNN, Who IS this guy?
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 06:05 PM by seventhson
He was slamming the corprations for lying about jobs getting shipped overseas and claiming it was helping America and making us stronger.

Steve Forbesd and ALL of Dobbs' corporate guests looked like complete idiots and liars.

I know Dobbs is a conservative but he seemed genuinely PISSED as an America that the US worker is getting screwed by immoral corporate outsourcing of jobs and claiming it was good for America.

anyone see this and can anyone explain Dobbs to me?

I thought he was on Bush's side. Or is he a true conservative who is fed up? Wassup?

1. Dobbs Has Been Anti-Outsourcing For A Long While
Go to his website for a list of US companies that have already outsourced jobs overseas.

He seems to clearly understand that outsourcing will destroy this country by eliminating the middle class.

2. Dobbs is a fiscal conservative
An "old" Republican. Not necessarily a social conservative - he may be, but what drives him is fiscal conservatism.

I listened to part of the show, but it didn't strike me as any more hard-hitting than any of his other shows lately. He always has a segment on there about exporting jobs and broken borders. Truly, I tune them out at this point - he's made his point, and I've heard it.

I'm glad he's out there saying this day after day.

3. He's been on fire about outsourcing
On his website, he lists company that are "stealing America." My guess is that he's a conservative with integrity. Remember those?

but he supported the invasion of Iraq. I wrote him several angry emails last year because of it.

8. welcome to the club
I have been stunned by Dobbs for the last month or so. He was a conservative and his show was/is mostly financial so I never watched it (for more than a few minutes and it was either boring or propaganda so I moved on.)

Now I can't figure out if he's a conservative or a liberal. Maybe the lines are bluring? Maybe some conservatives are pissed that their party has been hijacked by religious nut cases (not all religious people are nut cases - standard disclaimer) and war mongers.

The true conservatives I know who are against Bush are worried about the deficit. The war (which is freaking me out!) doesn't seem to bother them.

15. I know ... who IS this guy, and what have they done with Lou Dobbs?
Ever since he came back from space.com he's been different. I have even detected considerable scepticism about the Iraq war thing from him lately and he was all gung ho about that a year ago.

talk about "Fallujha" today and the women and children being asked to leave so that our "millitary might" can confront the "able bodied" to Moab them.

He loves to focus on the "Job Export." I give him credit for that...but he is a Hawk and support the Chimp on the WAR against "TERRAISM."

He's like Matthews, and Tweety and Slimeman and the rest of them. They pick an issue they push, but in the end they are slime!

And, yes, I watch Lou and applaud his "Outsourcing" stuff. But, I no more trust him than the "Chimp" to really "report" what's going on outside his "pet project" that allows him to get "moderate to liberal" viewers for his show.'

Really let loose on you on this one, "Seventh." :D

19. He's an ECONOMIST
and his show is about the economy. That's it. Unlike Limpballs he doesn't consider himself an expert and foreign affairs and the environment and homeland security, so he doesn't talk about that. It's GREAT that we have a Repub on our side wrt the economy, just leave it at that.

"Outsourcing is just this year's bogeyman. Before, it was Japan, then the Germans, now it's India."

Excuse me, Steve, but how many American companies were moving their factories to Japan and Germany? How many American companies were outsourcing their call centers to Europe? Ass!

Lou asked the panel about Toyota as an example. The looks on their faces when he laid down the statistical hammer on that one had to be seen to be believed. These blow hearts drew a collective blank.

Fuckers.

Go Lou!!!

BTW - Lou still makes fun of Dem economic proposals as often as possible. He's no saint.

14. He called their bluffs, point for point ....
He didnt let them walk all over them: ...

It seems Dobbs is TRULY concerned about the 'welfare' of the citizens of this nation as a whole instead of the enrichment of a few based on fabulation and fallacious assertions by extreme corporatists ...

Lou Dobbs, while a Republican, seems a good and honest man ...

Kudos for him ...

...a thoughtful, smart, concerned Republican. (see Clarke, O'Neil, McCain..)

He has not only been cutting through the BS re outsourcing, but he's really come down on the Admin about Iraq and the 9/11 commission. He's been one of the few bright spots of PravdaNN lately.

Very nice surprise indeed.

18. msnbc story on dobbs
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4670239/

excerpt:
Characterizations of his economic stance are way off base, asserts Dobbs, who describes himself as a lifelong Republican who remains moderate in his views.

“I think every American should be offended by anyone ... who would suggest there are only two choices in trade policy, protectionism or free trade,” Dobbs said. “There are a host of choices between those polar extremes. The policy I favor is balanced trade, which is the policy pursued by all of our principal trading partners.”

22. Lou is a true conservative and a mensch
The Republican Party has been hijacked by radical right-wingers who are against everything I ever thought was core to Republicanism, like devotion to balancing the budget and preserving the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. There's almost no space left for moderate voices.

Lou really gets it that destruction of the middle class harms not only individuals but a great deal of what we think of as the American way of life: access to opportunity and decent public education for our kids, and ability to pay our own way and not fall into poverty. You don't have to be a rabid fan of unions to perceive that Wal-Mart is not really doing the nation any favors by racing to the bottom.

Lou also speaks out periodically on the mistreatment of our troops in Iraq and medical neglect of them when they are sent home wounded. A conservative may be "for" a war and still vehemently against using humans as disposable commmodities. In the same way I am against this war and for keeping our covenant with our enlisted personnel by treating our troops/wounded/vets humanely. On that basis I am grateful for Lou Dobbs' voice on an issue that concerns us both.

I'm glad that DUers are discovering him, but please don't make the mistake of thinking that he will say everything we dream about and then jumping up and down because he doesn't. I think of him simply as a true conservative who sees and is appalled by what the misadministration is doing on so many fronts -- and speaking out about it.

As for CNN, I make a point of writing Lou Dobbs comment line periodically to thank him for one thing or another -- and I mention that his show is virtually the only reason I have to watch CNN.

true conservatives are a totally different breed than neo-cons or shillish talking heads. Lou Dobbs is a good example of an actual conservative and so is Paul O'neill.

29. Used to known as "Main Street" Republicans
Socially moderate to right, and they simply want government to enact policies that support a good business climate.

The "dirty secret" is that most Democrats want the same thing. We want jobs -- good jobs with health care and decent retirement benefits. That means healthy companies.

The "New Republicans" want profits at any cost -- and they don't care if it's not sustainable in the long term. They'll make their billion or two and run off the some tax haven in the Caribbean.
