I thought I had a good idea . . . then I realized it wasn't . . .
the idea was simple: encourage Kerry to absolutely and totally reject reinstatement of the draft if elected, and challenge Bush to do the same . . .

here's why it's not a good idea: first, Bush would just lie and make the promise . . . if he wins, he simply disregards his promise, since he'd have no reason to care about any repercussions . . . after all, he can't run again . . . and second, it's entirely possible that Kerry might actually need the draft . . . if the death toll in Iraq continues to climb and enlistments drop sharply, he may have no alternative even if his goal is to extract us from Iraq . . . he's already said that we need another 40,000 troops, at least temporarily, and if he can't get them through enlistments, he'll have to get them somewhere . . .

now aren't you glad I saved you the time and energy it would have taken to tell me I was full of it? . . . :)
