For all on DU who have family members in Iraq
My thoughts and prayers are going out to you and yours, as well as the innocent Iraqis caught in the crossfire.

If there was any justice left in this world, Rumsfield, Bush, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Perle, Feith, Abrams, and Bremer will be arrested and charged as war criminals and war profiteers for this horrific abuse of American military power and America's trust by their lies and continued mishandling of the invasion of Iraq.

3. Even though I have another post that looks at this "war" realistically....
I do want to offer my thoughts and prayers to all the GIs in Iraq at this time. I know it is a very difficult time for them and their families.

4. Thank you RainDog...
I have a cousin who is in Army Reserves and has been in Baghdad a year. He was supposed to come back this month. I also have a misguided nephew who just got out of basic training for the Marines 3 months ago. He thinks he will be sent to school for engineering. I am afraid his days in the US are numbered.... :(

6. I agree wholeheartedly . . . but my fear is that Bush is somehow . . .
re-selected -- or just plain steals the election -- and that many more loved ones of DU members and other Americans will find themselves in harm's way . . .

7. Not family member but a good friend and former roommate
He's been there since it started (15 months) he's used to be a "tough as nails" kinda guy but lately his emails have been very disturbing and he seems to be carrying a lot of psychological baggage too.

Sigh.

8. No doubt it's a hard, hard situation
also considering that Bush made sure to shit on veterans on the very day he invaded Iraq.

And no doubt, after 15 months, your friend needs some time away from the whole mess.

...actually, I think the entire military needs a break from the whole mess. too bad we can't call a ceasefire, get rid of Bush, and call a "redo" to undo the damage the Bush cabal has done.

I think we need to engage all factions in talks, not fire, to disarm them, lower the level of rhetoric all around, and bring in multi-national advisors who will stop the corporate plunder of Iraq and instead return the nation's assets to their people.

Bush and his cronies should in no way profit from the deaths of Americans and Iraqis.

10. My son, a Marine,
called at 2:30am to tell us he's going to Baghdad next month. He's currently in Okinawa. I keep thinking about the families of those killed yesterday. The 12 Marines and the Iraqi civilians, including 16 children. This is madness. There is no way in this urban fight to tell who the enemy is...or isn't. And Bush was yukking it up yesteerday in his photo op. Sickening. I will NEVER forgive this man for saying "Bring It On!". Absolutely disgusting.

11. And now he's vacationing in Crawford
as the most important fighting in Iraq since the invasion is going down.

I have nothing but contempt for Bush. He doesn't deserve to lead the people of this nation.

He makes me ashamed. My only consolation is knowing that he WAS NOT ELECTED, HAD NO MANDATE, and is shitting on all of us, not just the troops, so no one is exempt from his horrible pResidency.

21. Thanks Mari, for the link.
I'm going to send the link to my younger brother. The death of his best friend (brother in law) has been difficult at best for him to come to terms with. I hope this place may help him to know that he is not alone in his deep grief.

He said to me recently that he has to believe that we are doing the right thing in Iraq otherwise Jay's death will be unbearable for him. He won't hear anything else.

I know you have a son in Iraq that's having a difficult time. I hope he comes home to you safe, the sooner the better.

23. Thanks so much
I am heartsick for those who have lost loved ones, both Americans and Iraqis. What are we accomplishing? Do we really expect the Iraqi people to embrace us when their people are dying? Bush is too stubborn and ill-educated to know he has made grave mistakes. He will blunder ahead out of sheer willfullness.

13. My heart goes out to you...
My thoughts are with all the people who suffer the consequences of this needless war.

If there would be any justice, Bush and his cronies would be in Iraq, getting the sh*t shot out of them. None of those f*cking idiots have any family members in Iraq. Most of them didn't even serve in the Army themselves. They all dodged Vietnam.

14. I just found out my bro-in-law is going...
...He's an MP in the Air Force.

He volunteered to be part of a group going over to support the Marines (He's in Italy right now.)

My MIL is freaking out. I understand why he's doing this, in a way... he was a foster child, adopted at an older age, and he's always searched for a way to belong, to be a part of something.

But he's only 19.

I hate this damned stupid, pointless, heartbreaking war.

P.S. I just registered to post today. I've been lurking and reading religiously for the past six months...A big thanks to DU for showing me there are still intelligent, empathetic souls out there. Some days, knowing that is all that keeps me going...

16. I carry you all in my heart.
I can't imagine how awful this must feel for you all to see the news reports and read some of the things written about what is going on over there. I don't know if it helps any, but I love and respect you and your soldiers for all your sacrifices.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't contemplate the fact that our selected (p)Resident has put you thru this and has placed the ones you love in harm's way. In many ways, that single thought makes me even more motivated to work at seeing him gone.

May we all know peace soon, and may your fears be put to rest by seeing your loved ones home safe.

I don't personally know anyone over in Iraq any more. Our one relative that was, came home in a box last year. It sucks beyond words.

I know many DUers have precious family and friends over there or are soon to be on their way. Lots and lots of us hold you close in our thoughts and hearts. I think it's important that you hear it and know it. :grouphug:

20. Thank you.
My oldest came back last month after a year over there. He went in with the first wave out of Kuwait. Now he's on his honeymoon! But there's a chance his unit will return to Baghdad in December. :(

My second is still there. He's not even supposed to BE there--the Navy sent him because the Army ran out of people, I think. He's in the 4th month of a 6-month TDY assigned to an Army unit, but with all the stuff going down right now, I fear he may be kept there. I haven't heard from him for several weeks, so I don't know how he's doing at the moment.

This situation is just horrible.
