Ohio neck and neck
Edited on Sun Apr-04-04 05:35 PM by mtnester
<snip>

President Bush leads challenger John Kerry by
only one percentage point in a poll published in The Columbus Dispatch.

Bush had 46% to 45% for Kerry with ten percent undecided. That's if the election features only the Republican incumbent against the Democratic challenger.

With consumer-advocate Ralph Nader in the race, Bush leads Kerry 45 percent to 43 percent, with Nader getting three percent and nine percent undecided.

.....we have GOT to get the Kerry campaing in here! They cannot rely on county and state Dem HQ to handle this. Remember, Al Gore wrote this state off, I believe he could have won here.

1. I like the surrogate idea.

Clark seems particularly strong in Ohio. If I were Kerry, I'd have Clark do a month-long "listening" tour by bus through the state. Have Clark - as a member of "Team Kerry" - listen to citizens' concerns and perspectives.

We should do this with each person who ran/is running for the nomination: find-out what states where he/she's popular, and have that candidate "camp-out" there for a good long time. It doesn't cost much to operate and staff a bus tour for each of these folks, and it results in our message getting out on the local news every night.

(Edited for clarification.)

2. That's it, take the fight to them.
MN, WI, OR, IA, and MI are looking excellently safe.
We have the edge in PA and FL.
Now we have to take the fight to the enemy.
OH, WV, AZ, NV, MO, TN, AR, CO, LA, NH.

4. ACT is recruiting in Ohio
Not all counties have an office set up yet; but they are in the major counties now. PM me and I'll try to find out if an office is open near you.

5. Tie is pretty good considering our current limited funds...
Once the Clinton fundraising kicks in we should be going up a few points.

6. More bad news for Bush: His Approval Rating in Ohio trends downward...
I posted this earlier in another thread... the trend has been anti-Bush, and it's picking up steam.

Chimpy's approval rating continues to decline in Ohio. He's down to 46% Approval, slipping 3 more points since February:

Bush Slipping in Ohio, Poll Says

As far as the general mood around Ohio, I can only speak from my own experience, but I'd say that the Democrats have never been in a better position to swing Ohio voters to the left. The election is the top topic of conversation around here, and the tone isn't anywhere near as bitter and wing-nut as it was before Selection 2000.

Here is a chart the Enquirer printed last September, showing how Chimpy's ratings in Ohio plummeted from April through September 2003; he's lost 9 more points in the 6 months since the poll below was taken.

Also, the Cincinnati Enquirer, a conservative right-wing rag of a newspaper, has as its Sunday headline a special report which shows that Cincinnatians are more concerned about the rising costs of health care than anything else:

I'm confident that Ohio is the state which will hand John Kerry the presidency in November. I'm ecstatic that he's coming to Cincinnati, the heart of Conservo-Land, on Tuesday!
