We Are Being Strangled By The Loop

Cheney in particular, likes to sneer that the people who have pointed out his lies were "out of the loop."

We hear our policymaking machine described as a loop -- isn't that concept outrageous on its face? Isn't it the antithesis of the democratic process?

Isn't the "loop" the essence of the problem? Perhaps we should be questioning this whole concept. It is the opposite of open, which is what our government is supposed to be about -- transparency and participation. The loop shuts people out.

Maybe there has to be a loop, but how big is it, and how inclusive? In the case of the Bush Administration, the loop is about as big as the eye of a needle.

And the sneer shuts us out, too, Dick.
