I'm Applying For An American Express Card / Air America Sponsors
And ditching my Bush-supporting MBNA Visa. Challenging you to do the same!!

Also I would like to put in a plug for the excellent car insurance value & service I have found with Costco/AmEx. You have to have a perfect driving record....

Costco is the living wage alternative to the evil Walmart and Amex is an Air America sponsor.

Remember we can "vote" with our dollars too!!

4. Let Them Hear From US!
We are over 40,000 strong just on DU and we all have liberal friends. Support companies who respect our right to have our views heard. LET THEM HEAR FROM US, FOLKS!! They will hear a lot of whining from the freepers for damn sure. They are anti-free speech, and loud about it.

3. Check Out Open Secrets Site
It's hard to do this with EVERYTHING but I just pick out the worst offenders -- Phillip Morris (Kraft Foods) Home Depot and MBNA will NOT get one cent from our family, and I try to spread the word.

Anybody who advertises on Air America def gets points with me!!

5. Keep a VISA or Mastercard handy though
For work, I have a American Express card and there are quite a few places that don't accept it. You can get Visa or Mastercards through banks other than MBNA. There's plenty out there.

6. Very high discount rates
One of the reasons many merchants do not accept Amex is because the discount rates it charges merchants (the percentage fee of the transaction the merchant pays Amex for the privilege of taking the credit card) is quite high compared to Mastercard, Visa and Discover. Often around 3.5% if I recall correctly from my retail days while the others are down around 2% and perhaps as low as 1.8%.

7. I love my BLUE card
Go for the platinum if you have $400 to blow and if you will take advantage of the benefits. That's also a great card.
