Twin Cities job prospects suck: 72,000 unemployed vs. 29,000 jobs
From todays Star Tribune:

"More than 72,000 unemployed workers are competing for about 29,000 job openings in the metro Twin Cities area, according to an analysis of state jobs data reported Monday by the Jobs Now Coalition, a St. Paul group that advocates for low-wage workers."

Even crappier is the statewide prospect:

"The same survey showed that statewide, 125,000 unemployed Minnesotans were competing for 50,000 jobs at the end of last year, a 37 percent drop in jobs in two years."

Great. I've been a college grad since Sept. and am still underemployed, searching for a job in my field. I keep getting passed by because I don't have relevant job experience, and there are a lot of unemployed lab techs and research associates out there who do. And in a couple months, a new wave of college grads will be unleashed for me to compete with. Ugh.

1. And Pawlenty and David Strom would say this is great because they will
save even more money not running the transit system. Fewer jobs, fewer people needing to get to work! Hey - less pollution too! Initially they were gleeful over the bus strike because they were saving so much money each day. Then they said they'd take that money and buy cars for poor people to get to work with. Who needs buses? They want to build more roads and have more drivers.

Seriously, this state needs an adult back in charge, like maybe even Arne Carlson who's a republican. He says Pawlenty is not focused.

If you want to get really riled ck out David Strom's Taxpayers League site - he is the guy who got Pawlenty to "promise" never to raise taxes. Of course they have passed the burden on to the cities and towns and the whole place is slowly caving. I heard him last week debating the transit strike - he sounds like about a 9th grade boy who revels in his lame debating skills (and chortles mockingly in the background while his opponent speaks - you could hear it on the radio) and has a grimy pile of note cards just full of lame facts.

Don't give up hope Nick - keep yourself out there in the marketplace. Something will fall in place for you!
