a political hate crime
I don't think that has been posted yet at DU. This is very shocking to me -- these rightwing homophobic thugs didn't like the anti-Bush material a guy wrote/posted in his LiveJournal so they tracked him down and beat, cut, and raped him. They found out who he was/where he was from personal info he posted on the web.

like the Phelps group. NOT that I am sticking up for them but as far as I know they have never sent out people to cause injury to anyone else, especially for political reasons. They seem to be bipartisan haters. I think that they have been charged with assault but it has been years and that was for smacking someone with their sign and I don't think it caused injury. Their way to inflict injury is not physical. This, of course, does not mean they are not somehow affiliated with Phelps but unless he is branching out this does not sound like them.
