Is this what * means by "leave no child behind"???
The president's visit unexpectedly canceled classes for 1,425 children at the Boston Renaissance Charter School, a K-8 institution on Stuart Street a block away from the hotel. The Boston Public Schools system, which provides about 30 buses to transport Renaissance students, said it could not guarantee timely pick-up of students at dismissal time, said Dudley Blodget, chief operating officer of the Renaissance School's foundation. The school also feared that the 300 parents who pick up their children would not be able to reach the school.

"It's a sad situation that you have to close off school because of a fund-raising event," said Roger F. Harris, Renaissance headmaster.

1. Remember the Clinton haircut flap?
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 09:29 PM by xray s
Supposedly Clinton was getting a haircut on AF1 while it was at LAX and that caused some flights to be delayed.

The press played up that "scandal" for days. The Limbaugh vomitorium featured it for weeks. Oh...the humanity!

But let Bush blow into town to milk the corporate teat and in the process throw 1,425 kids out of school onto the Mean Streets to fend for themselves and I can guarantee you will hear nary a peep about it in the "librul media".

2. I can't believe these guys can still walk
they have shot themselves in the foot so many times!

I guess it makes sense that arguably the most extreme right-wing administration in U.S. history is also arguably the dumbest.

Note the difference between true conservatives and the right-wing loonies we have running the country.

I'm not a conservative but I respect the inherent logic in many truly conservative points of view, such as advocating for less government, a non-activist Supreme Court, a tight reading of the Constitution, etc.

NOTHING Bush and his dumb-head supporters have done is truly conservative! It's certainly not liberal. It's merely wrong-headed, selfish, and elitest. Oh yeah, and real real stupid.

End of rant. Sorry.

4. If Bush really cared about children's education
There would be no more proficiency tests(in my state they're mandatory). These 'tests' are annoying. Talk about a class disruption, these things take up a whole week. Furthermore while children are bussed in aluminum foil busses, the tests are shipped in armored vans. These tests cost too much, take up too much time, and show children that all that matters in life is the numbers you get back on a test.

6. NCLB is as phony as Bush's
claims to have improved education in Texas.

I have a child with autism who is high functioning and is mainstreamed for most of her classes. She does not do well on lengthy standardized tests.

So the principal of her school requested that we sign a letter stating that we object to testing "for religious reasons" because they cannot afford her and other learning disabled kids like her, pull down test scores. The stakes are too high.

So you tell me what these test scores will mean if the children who are most at-risk are excluded.

NCLB is a waste of tax payers money used to perpetuate a cruel lie, that Bush is "improving" education.
