I'm betting money Bush will apologize too
After seeing the reaction of the families to Clarke after his apology today, I feel certain that sometime between now and the final July report from the hearings, Bush will slither up to a microphone and apologize. Of course, he's too fucking skeered to actually hug a 9/11 family member for fear of his evil hide so he won't gain the full benefit of a photo op like Clarke.

What do you think?

44. If this were a poll, it'd be about 95% "no apology" I digress
I just thought the scumbag would try to take advantage of the momentum Clarke created. The RepubliCONs are masters at doing that you know--stealing issues and ideas by twisting them to make them appear as if they are supportive. I gave them too much credit.

4. I don't know
Has he ever apologized for anything ever? It would be a match between Rovian strategy and admitting fault. What an interesting thought experiment though. Like if Kobe was a member of the Bush administration, would we be hearing about it on the news?

Besides, they think it's all he has to run on.

Rove's technique is that if the spin is not working, do more of the same, but louder and more often.

6. Never. Ever. Ever.
To apologize would imply that he was wrong about something.

In Bush's tiny mind, he is never wrong. About anything. Ever.

...he'll do nothing of the sort. Just as in other things, Bush feels no responsibility for any of 9-11 and would not ever say to the 9-11 families or the rest of America that he failed. As far as republicans are concerned they don't expect Bush to apologize and you can see that in the reactions from the republicans on the 9-11 panel.

18. I rather doubt it...
Being President means never having to say you're sorry, at least according to this bunch.

No matter how badly the war in Iraq goes, it will have been worth every drop of blood and ounce of treasure. Despite the sagging economy and depressed jobs market, the tax cuts were necessary. Every "flip-flop," everything that looks like it might have been a mistake, or even like it was a blatant lie, will in the end prove to have been justified.

Apologies are for the weak, and any admission of even the smallest mistake will be perceived as evidence against this Administration's patent infallibility. So I counsel you against holding your breath for that apology.

Unless an apology tests well before enough focus groups to indicate that it would be a positive in the upcoming election campaign, in which case Mr. Rove will require Our Boy to, aw shucks, put on his best hang-dog expression and say, "I'm sorry, I really mean it--Put 'er there--are we all friends again?"

25. An apology would be politically very difficult.
I don't doubt Bush* would do it if he thought it could win him the election. He would say or do anything to make that happen.

The problem with apologizing for 9-11 is that it kills his facade of being the only one capable of defending America. Once he admits a major screw up like 9-11, he's not the great protector that a foolish 60% of the country now believes him to be.

He is from a family of war profiteers who prize money above all. He believes (as do his entire family( that the average person is somewhat below the status of a worm. He has never had to apologize (that implies humility) and he wont
what he might do is come up with some lame excuse to explain why he didnt act or something might have been wrong (not his fault).

Bush has never admitted (maybe in his whole life) that he has done anything wrong. He will just keep saying that he's done a wonderful job. Did you catch yesterday during the hearings, when just as William Cohen was saying that just because we haven't been attacked since 9/11 we shouldn't feel that we are more secure, TWO different stations simultaneously cut to a TAPE of Bush saying how much he's done against terrorism.

To apologize, to acknowledge responsibility in any way shape or form would totally ruin him.

No, I think they're gonna keep stuffing thumbs in that dike till it breaks and destroys them.

He needed to fire Condi and Ashcroft soon after 9/11 for any apology to be remotely possible. He didn't, and now he's stuck with them.
