Poll question: Which legislature would you rather serve in?
Was watching a portion of the Prime Minister's Questions today on C-SPAN2, and thinking how extraordinary their parliamentary system is compared to ours. I've never seen a session which wasn't somehow exciting. Compared to our House of Representatives, which is staid, preprogrammed, and painfully proper, the House of Commons is like a blast of arctic air on a stifling summer day.

Members have to think on their feet, and have a command of facts and figures which I doubt half of our representatives possess. I haven't thought much of Tony Blair since he came out in favor of the Iraq war, but he deserves credit for his skill and knowledge of political and social conditions in his country. Pity our legislative and executive leaders seem so sorely lacking in such knowledge.

So, if you had to choose between serving in the House of Representatives or the House of Commons, which would you pick? I'd pick the House of Commons.

2. Thank you. I've got two avatars identical to that on my face,
just above my nose.

You do make a good point, though; the House of Commons is dominated by the Labour Party. We do need more Democrats in the US House.

and one is right and one is left.

4. It is so mesmerizing to watch
My husband and I were watching Tony Blair answer questions the other night, and stayed up way too late doing so. Whenever I hear people complain about Ted Kennedy rolling his eyes during the SOTU, I bring up the fact that Bush would be utter toast if he had to hold his own before the House of Commons. Could you imagine? His instructions from Rove via his earpiece couldn't come in nearly quick enough.

7. House of Commons
I don't think I could stand to be in the same room with Tom Delay.
