Congratulations to Spain for not letting terrorists sway the election.
It would have been an absolute travesty if the *super* majority of the population, which opposed the Iraq war, had reacted senselessly and *not* ousted the leaders which led them into Iraq.

If Spain had voted for the status quo, it would be incentive for incumbent leaders in democracies around the world to manufacture fake terrorists attacks against their own citizens in order to stay in power.

Thank you citizens of Spain, for keeping your heads on straight. You've made the whole world a little safer.

5. No, it's not a joke. Look at my second line and think *hard* about it.
You don't change your mind because of a terrorist attack.

The people of Spain were not in favor of the incumbent. I don't believe the polls. We all know very well how polls are purposely skewed. Think *hard* about if you want a sitting leader to have a clear political benefit for having a terrorist attack his country on the eve of an election.

9. you don't skew polls that much
its dangerous to twist logic to fit reality but I know you're bound to do it.

don't be surprized if people don't concur.

6. no joke
ever since bush with his dishonesty lies and arrogance went into iraq the level of terrorism has risen. why should any country, whose citizens opposed the war, now have to deal with the consequences?

8. They voted against Aznar because
He lied! He tried to blame it on the ETA because it would help him win.

Painted on some Spanish walls: They died to support Bu$h.
See another article in LBN: Aznar's Gov. cut down the number of police investigating Al-Qaida several months beforehand. Was this another LIHOP?

21. "because of the terrorists"?
Not because of a PM lying and manipulating the media? Not to mention: getting caught at it?

Do terrorists win, if a new government is elected democratically?

But if reporters and officials from all over the world continue to spew the "terrorists won" BS, then I see a real danger of the terrorists believing it to be true.

I'm quite shocked by the way the Spanish people are attacked by the right (and even some not belonging to that group) for doing the right thing.

I don't remember anyone starting to mock the USA mere days after 9/11, but it's apparently OK to go against Spain.
Have these people no decency?

22. No, the rabid right wing gave up decency a long time ago.
Now they'll do anything to win, no matter what the cost. They've lowered themselves to the level of common criminals. No honor, no ethics, no morality.

"But if reporters and officials from all over the world continue to spew the "terrorists won" BS, then I see a real danger of the terrorists believing it to be true."

Thanks for that.

I hope that they DO pull their troops out of Iraq. After all, the war was unjust, all about oil, and broke it international laws.

4. Hear, hear
It is time we realized that Bush's approach to fighting terrorism is completely dishonest and a total failure. If the world is so much safer for Bush's invasion of Iraq, why has al Qaida been able to uncork no less than four major attacks since Bush announced an end to major combat operations last May?

The Spanish people were right to punish Aznar and his followers for toadying up to Bush. We Americans will be right to punish Bush and his followers this November.

7. Aznar was screwed when he...
...didn't allow a possibility for the attack to be Al-Q. The ETA accusation shut him down. THAT'S why they voted the way they did. Our media are spinning this to high heaven.

10. It seem to me if 80% did not want to go with their govt. and
the govt went ahead and did what that 80% did not want you would vote the govt out.If I recall last year these people were out in force not to go with Bush and war. We were wondering what Bush was giving them to get the govt to join his little re-election war.Why would anyone be shocked when the anti-war group won? Even if Bush and Co think they rule the world others have not falling into line yet. Maybe Spain is thinking for them selfs. The terrorists bombs were also less BEFORE we went to war. You do not kill the mouse in your home by blowing up the house. You also try not to let the darn things breed. All Bush and Co seem to have done is take bin Laden out as the center power and spread this crazy group through out the world. Spend us into debt, messed up a whole region of the world even more and killed a lot of people. Terror goes on.Please do tell me what Bush and Co have done to help one person?

11. Good points, I completely agree.
This war on terror (i.e. war for U.S. domination of global resources under the name of war on terror) has caused more problems than it's solved.

13. Spain was responding to lies, not to terrorism.
Unfortunately, I don't have much confidence in US to figure it out accordingly. For most of US it's about hair, earth tones and possible blow jobs.

And when the next domestic strike happens, the media whores will run to * for cover without a second thought about his lies and his lack of leadership on this. The Bushco terrorists should be held accountable for their own reports supporting this terrorist regime.

17. Aznar was disliked by a majority. He simply did not protect them.
He deserved to be ousted for failed policies. Rallying around him simply because of a terrorist attack would only encourage incumbent leaders around to globe to inflame terrorists or even go so far as to launch covert attacks against their own citizens to keep them cowed and blindly patriotic.

from the mid 30's in approval ratings to the upper 80's!!!

And only 3,000 Americans had to die!

You go Bush!

19. Poll numbers are bogus these days anyway. Any schill knows how to skew
... the results by asking the right questions, to the right group of people.

80 to 95% of Spain opposed this war. The demonstrations there made the demonstrations in the USA look pitiful in comparison. I believe pictures of millions marching in the streets. I don't believe a poll with only a few hundred people who've been swayed by the questions.

16. Excellent topic.
It is precisely the thinking of the fascists that a terror attack will unite the public that is now showing itself to be fallacious and all the more so with an informed public.

The Spanish people really nailed this one.
