Book: Patriot Act was ready by Sept 15-16, 2001
In the book, House of Bush, House of Saud by Craig Unger, is this paragraph:

"By the weekend after the attacks, Ashcroft, to the dismay of civil libertarians, had already put together a package of proposals broadening the FBI's power to detain foreigners, wiretap them, and trace money-laundering to terrorists."

So, where did he get it from?

1. Good question.
I remember hearing somebody talk about that...that the sheer number of pages would have taken many people a fair amount of time to write.

So it would seem like this was planned well ahead of time.

2. It had to be done up ahead of time.
This also lends credence to the LIHOP/MIHOP Theory.

3. Gee, he must be a really, really fast writer
to come up with three hundred some pages of closely written legalese that promptly. I bet he had to stay up nights. Poor Johnny Ashcroft. What a hard worker. :eyes:

I wonder if it was written before or after they stole the election? My personal needle is definately starting to swing in a MIHOP kind of direction.

4. I wouldn't be surprised if portions were ready BEFORE then ...
Just as recent foreign policy appears lifted from the Project for a New American Century, of the 1990s.

7. I read parts of PNAC and I think that
homeland security was part of their plan way before Bush stole the office...so I wouldn't doubt that the Patriot act and other things were pre prepared for "just in case" a waaaaaaay long time ago.

;-)

5. IF the book is accurate, then there are some big questions to be answered.
Is the book credible? If so, how?

Only reason I didn't buy was I had already ordered online. I'm hoping it will show up today.

I read the chapters before 9/11 and after. Probably nothing new that a well-read DU'er doesn't already know but may be more fleshed out. The Saudis have bunnypants wrapped around their little finger. One incident is Bandar got pissed at * right before 9-11 because of *'s embracing Sharon over the Palestinians. Earlier with * at his side Poppy 41 called the Saudis to apologize his boy didn't really mean it. And then right before 9-11 Bandar gave Condi an earful telling her that he considered they(Bushies) were from Uruguay, he was from Saudi and Saudis were going to wash their hands of the US and look to their own affairs. * wrote them a 2 page apology for neglecting the Palestinians. It was so good the Saudis invited Arafat to Riyadh to read it.

The author says one of the leading Saudis considered * to be goofy, and they thought him a lightweight. Part of it they blamed on Condi for her lack of knowledge on the Middle East.

The book covers very well that Clinton had planned and even bankrolled to the tune of several hundred thousand military strikes against Bin Laden, Al Qaida and maybe even the Taliban. He was ready to fund the Northern Alliance. But 5 Supreme Court justices stopped that plan (made me think those 5 have a lot of blood on their hands).

There's a lot of info from Richard Clarke (if Clarke goes in depth in his book it's going to be a barn-burner).

This is one you need to read. And this is one you need to pass on to your Republican family and friends if they're not kool-aid drinkers. If you know any Jewish-Americans who plan on voting for * you might want to give them this one as well. I think their blood pressure will go through the roof.
