fight cancer and terrorism in your spare time!

This is a bit off topic but I think you should check it out: http://www.grid.org/home.htm

United Devices... or Grid Org... is a distributive computing project that uses the idle capacity in your CPU to do medical research. A similar project does the same to look for SETI signals. Just how much of your PC's capacity is going unused? It depends on what tasks you're doing but PC users try this: if you're running XP hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE. When the Windows Task Manager comes up hit the Processes Tab... then scroll down to System Idle Process. Usually you'll see that some 90-95% of your CPU capacity is NOT being used.

I've been doing this for over 2 years and have some 165 CPU days of time donated. I never noticed any performance slowdown in my PC... and the agent backs off whenever I need more CPU resources. I believe you can choose what projects you want to work on. I've been working on the Cancer and Smallpox projects. There's also some cool 3-D graphics of the molecules being tested.
