are usually taboo in the recent Demo party; re energy policy - great on nuke power; what a guy! He's taking questions now; the host is Tom Harkin. How about Kucinich/Harkin...in my dreams! Maybe they'll repeat it for you and others - be sure to look at C-Span schedule on internet, ok?

9. Thanks glad you can see this
Most of us know that most of the other candiates are good people, I like Kerry 2nd, if Gore doesnt run, I hardly have ever seen a Kerry supporter bash DK too which I like, now most Dean supporters are good people I will admit, but some have bashed DK very little but some and I realize some Kucinich supporters are defensive and have some things about Dean they dont like. I think Kerry could put us in a 135, Kucinich in a 180, and Dean just in a 90 really because Kerry is good on most social and economic issues.

15. Yeah, John
I feel that Dennis K. is the most in line with my thoughts and feelings. Sadly, I fear too many would see him as a, gasp! socialist.

He has always spoken to me-and as for fire in the belly, he has that, too!

So far, from all I have read and seen, Kerry is my frontrunner.

32. so, is your Kerry icon because
you feel he is the frontrunner? I believe he is the frontrunner as well, but if I had a real fave among those running, I would use that as my icon! Come on, chick, change your icon to Kucinich, it's ok in here. . . and, if I had the same courage I'm advising you to have, I'd use a Star of David rather than the GGBridge, so I'm well aware of all that goes into these decisions! Easier to give than take one's own advice, huh? :loveya:

10. unity of people all over the world
this cause of nationhood created by our constitution is glorious cause

but the problem is we lost sense of our capacity to keep perfecting this union- the unity of people all over the world

my vision is holistic, to look at the world as 1 for we are inter-connected...

Come from the heart, from a place of knowing how we're all connected and all our decisions, Pentagon spending, energy affect the world so we must believe we have the capacity to change the world.

This nation is about the highest principles- equality and justice

Where can we take this nation to help it grow and REJOIN THE WORLD in a new cause of nationhood

Yes!

16. Health Care
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 07:04 PM by Tinoire
Insuring access to health care for all americans? How?

and how do you plan to ensure the people who work in the health field are heard in the DK admin?

says he worked in a hospital working with hospital officials and their problems... has already worked on this in Cleveland with these people

Universal Health Care

Market-oriented approach has deprived many people of health-care. They work and either can't afford health-care or are wiped it if something happens to someone in the familiy becuase of the tremendous bills

Single payer system to eliminate many of the administrative costs.
23% admin costs for Medicare, wasted, down the tubes. What a waste that could be used to provide the care instead.

No million dollar salaries stock options because a healther nation and more productive work-force is what we need- people with more security so we can have a healthier and more secure people and nation.

We have the resources in this country. We're already paying for it so why aren't we getting it?

Need a candidate free of corporate ties to make this happen

High cost of health care one reason our manufacturing industries are in trouble-

Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 07:04 PM by Tinoire
in answer to question of a woman asking why Dems haven't fought, denounced Bush and says DK can never win because Dem Party hasn't spoken out against Bush (she is pissed at Bush! - everyone clapping when she called Bush an SOB)

DK - There's a lot of anger in the US, I understand that

I led the effort in House of Reps to challenge the administrations march to war LONG before anyone else said a word

and I continue on a daily basis on why we're there and the negative effect this is having on our nation, families and the young peoplke who served. 4 died yesterday
Unacceptable

Troops out of there. It's time!

Patriot Act

I was one of the first who stepped forward and argued strongly and when Congress returns I am introducing LEGISLATION TO REPEAL THE PATRIOT ACT

27. Re Anger
Change must come from our heart. Not from anger. You can't sustain hope for a new America out of anger. There is grief below that anger and what I hope is that we can elevate the cause of nationhood to get in touch with our destinay as a nation again.

Freedom. Couraged. Land of Free / Home of Brave. We have to be strong and courageous to bring our country back but that comes from the heart.

I rarely mention the name of the incumbent because the cause of this country is bigger than that person (*).

Enforce controls preventing uneccessary Cruelty to the animals. Water pollution because of pollutants leaking into the bed-rock - public health issue.

Local communities must have control ofcer zoning issues through funding mechanisms and be able to force compliance with clean air and water act so these businesses don't damage the environment. This is an environmental and pulbic health issue and how we treat animals raised for the market

and also a matter of supporting small farmers.

30. Minimum Wage vs Living Wage
Living Wage must be attached to all govt contracts.

Look in DC. This administration eliminating payment for overytime for people who can hardly pay their bills.

People being forced to work for less and less pay.

Wage level up to have a Living Wage.
-----

The reason I believe I'll be the next Pres is because I offer the most fundamental contrast with Bush administration on everything.

Harkin
As Pres what is your vision of what role people with disabilities will play in your admin and what you would do to bring the Supreme Court in line...

DK
How we look at our brothers and sisters who are differently abled is a question about our humanity about who we are as a people.

Need to make sure they have the resources to equip schools etc for the people with those special needs and make sure we hear the voices of those who are differently abled and NOT through tokenism.

Everyone os us has an obligation to each other to help people achieve their highest capabalities. This helps us expand who we are as a nation. Need higher standards to make this happen so that we show that however differently abled you are, everyone has something to contribute and we must ensure everyone has the chance to make this contribution.

37. Peace, War, Violence
Q about this

Department of peace to make non-violence an organizing principle in our society. Violence is a problem in US

Domestic, spousal, child, racial, against gays, schools but have never taken a structure approach to deal with it, hence the Dept of Peace to deal w/ these things

Dream of ML King to make non-violence an organizing peinciple

At international level also. work with other nations so that someday we can create a world where war itself can become archaic so that we have a society with the ability to survive

Harkin says he worked on creating US Institute of Peace which we still have. We have Marines, Army, etc academies but what we need now is a Peace Academy .

Question re preferential treatement for people of upper $ brackets who have created mergers, bought out small farms etc

DK shift from rich to poor with poor paying taxes corporations no longer pay but move their business off-shore, influence our politics, and don't pay taxes... and all benefits going to people in higher brackets.

This is no way to save a democracy!

Those who make the most need to pay their fair share and quit transferring their tax burden to the middle class.

And spending of tax dollars needs to stop being wasteful. Money being wasted in Pentagon needs to go to socially productive programs

46. Education
from Pre-kindergarden all the way up...

need to ensure our young people have an educational experience that is creative. Ours is too test-oriented and quantatively-based stifling children's creativity. Need to work with educators to create an educational method to tap our young people's capacity for growth.

MUST focus on education! Everyone should have the chance for a higher education.

Education is one of the areas where we must set our standards the highest by returning to a quality-based educational system.

Iowa Caucuses...

Iowa can set a high tone for this country and send out of the caucauses a candidate who will go for deep and fundamental change..

level of leadership that says it's time for health cared, education for all working with the rest of the world on peace
that was present at the founding of this nation- that is our heritage and we are at a moment of evolution where we must tap those capacities and become the nation of our dreams, one we would be porud to turn over to our kids. Need Transformational change! Willingness to challenge the status quo!

Where I see America in the future? An undreamed of future where we're proud to be Americans and proud of our flag, proud in the cause of peace, social justice, economic jsutice, peace.

Give back a sense of Joy optimism and how great we are as a people!

P. S. on edit:VERY STRONG ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. No grandfathering in coal-power plants; wind, some kind of grass (NO, not that kind!!)solar, research and develop even more technologies for power. 20% of national energy needs sustainable by 2010!!Connected to foreign policies.

59. He cares
He cares about the people of our country and he cares about the people in other parts of the world. He doesn't believe in putting others down just to build himself or ones cause up.
He has the visions of Martin Luther King.. peace and commnunity, morals and ethics, and equality...and he also has the genuine spirit of Wellstone.
That's why I like him.

61. Yes he DOES! And it's more than swarmy politician hypocrisy
because every bill he has every introduced, every word he ever said, every cause he's ever fought or pushed since he's been a public servant has shown that.

Oh we can make a change in this country by supporting this man!

The Democratic Party will not support him because he would put an end to their cohabitation with the corporations as they rape and plunder the poor and middle-class.

I see Kucinich as our ONLY chance for change.

After 4 absolutely evil years of having absolute EVIL in the White House, what we need to re-balance the damage Bush has done to our country, our image, us and the world, is 4 years of absolute GOOD.

What can we at DU do to help his campaign? SPREAD the word! Download the flyers from his web-site and tell EVERYONE you know about what he's already done, plans and WILL DO for America.

Jobs. Health-Care. Education. No more obscene amounts of OUR money funding the war machinery! No more Monsanto's telling us their garbage is safe to eat and carving up the entire world to grow this genetically engineered crop here, that genetically engineered crop their and killing the agricultural sustainability of the poorer nations. Of America even!

No more pesticides in our foods and poisoning our water! No more you and me shouldering the tax burden of the rich! No more coporations taking jobs off-shore and then directing our politics!

Yes pass out those flyers! Educate ourselves on why and how he beats every candidate out there and TELL PEOPLE!

Peace (ok, I'm calm now :))

63. Whether
he wins or not...this really is what we 'ALL' need to strive for..to get this country (and hopefully the rest of the world)
back on the right track, morally and ethically..and this is what I want to leave to my child...a country of people with honor and dignity and the hope for a future..not one of fear and terrorism lurking around every corner, hate and prejudice and the constant beat of war drums.
