I have been coming here for 2 years now and I have noticed a change in DU recently.

Post Hijackers, thread riper offers, people with an issue, haters, etc.

Are we being taken over by...

Seems like a number of folks here like to focus on Clinton's foibles and not on Bush's huge faults.

I don't trust the fake media and they are promoting Dean. Something might be up with that.

....because it's not just the 'others'....it's gotten so the regulars have been disrupting a LOT too...

....just seems to me that maybe it's due to the fact that it's looking more and more like everyone is realizing maybe that the 'hopes' that they have tried to keep having just aren't being realized and everyday the entire situation we find ourselves in is falling apart at the seams....and it's driving everyone over the edge...that's just the way I see it....which makes me want to add this quote....

At least then one could seperate the wheat from the chaff.

I recognize that many long time posters on DU are firmly behind their candidate and vocally support them, but I also recognize that these same posters are not part of the crop of recently joined posters that repeatedly start new threads wherein they lament how we are going down and/or why eating our own is nutriously good.

So what used to be a great place to exchange ideas and discuss common ground and goals has diminished for me, and subsequently, I participate less and less.

13. Summertime

This is my third year on DU, and we've seen this every summer. College & HS kids with access to computers, and nothing to do for the summer except to play games. They act like assholes on line, and find some board to disrupt, just for giggles. DU keeps getting bigger, and with it comes more publicity, which brings us to the attention of such "mature" individuals. <shrug> It always seems to calm down after September.

15. This is the second post I have read complaining about new people.

I have been here a short time-a couple of months or so. I came here because I was interested in talking politics and issues-note these two words are in the PLURAL, lest I be accused of coming here to tout one issue. I have found it to be a welcoming sort of place, where I can disscuss issues dear to me, with people with whom I almost entirely agree. Then these posts and replies decrying the days when DU was small, and how it is flooded with new people diluting the board with single issues and agendas. If the people who have been here since time immemorial wish to have their limited, tiny utopian world, why dont not just disallow new memberships? i know for one, after reading these posts and seeing true colors displayed, that I am going to question whether this is the right community in which to discuss politics. Don't want me here? Tell me to pack it up and head on out. I know this is blunt and snide, but I feel like I have been attacked, and I came out defending myself.

Other, Not sure what you mean by infiltrators but seems like there are a lot of relatively immature folks supporting a candidate, getting carried away in the heat of 'debate cum battle', and then they let that poisonous attitude infuse everything.

Of course I am a newcomer so perhaps I'm not qualified to make a judgement.

18. I didn't vote in your poll

because I don't know the answer. But I'm still relatively new and I think you should give some people a break.

When a new person (who really belongs here) first finds this place, it's exhilarating and you feel like posting everywhere and posting exactly what you think. And you probably do post too much and start too many threads and possibly anger people who've been here much longer than you have. But we learn! Just give us time.

On the other hand, there clearly are some new disruptors here. I just don't believe they are the majority.

I find these types of posts on message boards to be as disruptive as the people they complain about. Same with the Intolerance post. Pettiness will divide the ranks in a cause faster than any outside influence could ever hope to. :eyes:

21. I voted other for two reasons.

People are arguing more over candidates for 2004.

Also disruptors are more obvious at DU2. Before when a post was removed or someone joined with a name like demssux it wasn't was as noticeable as it is now due to software changes.

Speculating on the number of trolls that are allegedly saturating DU simply alienates new members.

If you think someone is a troll or a disruptor, click the alert button and we will take care of it - provided of course that we consider the person to be a troll.

Remember that we try to keep debate as open as possible from far left to centrist, which is why you will frequently find that our opinion of what consitutes a troll is very different to other people's opinions.
