Why is Solidad O'Brien on CNN morning to night????
Is she related somebody high up in the corporation? That woman is a third grader wannabe, seriously. I cannot believe that this little squeaky voiced, giggly, flipped hair dolt is being paraded around like a 'professional' journalist!!

Sorry for the rant, but her totally unmerited rise to media prominence simply astounds me.

1. I happen to love her
She so cute and bubbly. She surpassed Katie Couric as my favorite news journalists.

I'm ready for the onslaught!

Correct?? Cause from my, female, point of view, she's totally devoid of content.

I think Paula Zahn has a lot more credibility, at least in terms of her on camera persona.

16. Well, I'm simply talking persona. Neither of them have real credibility.
Zahn just looks, sounds, and acts like an adult. CNN has apparently groomed Soledad into a childlike reporter, for some unfathomable reason.

28. That was the thing about her. She is nice looking but
she left no other impression. Maybe that is good. You think about what she is telling/selling, not about her.

Robin Meade- I can't get past watching her mouth. Her teeth never part. It is spooky. She's a nice looking person, and probably very smart and personable, but relax your jaw. Please.

24. Is this childlike news reporter persona part of a media plot to further
dumb down Americans? These silly little newscasters could have been put in place deliberately to make us think its OK to be unquestioning and superficial, because our national figureheads, who we watch and listen to day in and day out, are. Really, this might be a factor in the corporate meida brainwashing of Americans.

32. The media constantly insults our intelligence,
sometimes to their peril. Whenever I see 'cute' or 'perky' and nothing else I flip stations to Democracy Now!, C-SPAN, or, more often, look for intelligent life on the Internet.

20. Repug Paula needs her fortnightly day of rest...
The formerly "fair and balanced" Ms Zahn is off on yet another busman's holiday. When she was co-hosting American Morning she took so many days off (outside of her skiing accident) that it was brutally apparent that she just didn't want to be there. Soledad was just filling in as almost all of the CNN second-tier crew normally does when a big gun takes a day off.

As Soledad's pregnant with twins, I was struck by how she kept it together and how reporterly she was during the segment about the woman jailed for pooh-poohing the cesarian and causing the death of one of her own twins.

I'll take Soledad over the "I-wish-I-was-still-on-Fox" Ms. Zahn.

How pathetic that many think its a necessity for t.v. news reporters now.

Certainly, a woman can't be attractive and intelligent and successful without being "related to somebody high up in the corporation". :eyes: She's been on TV for a dozen years now.

And feminism takes a BIG step backwards...

36. Okay, flame if you must...
But I gotta thing for Soledad too. I was first hooked back in the early 90's when she was ZDNet (now TechTV I think), doing a weekly show about future electronics, can't remember the name of the show, but I sure as hell remember her. I even taped a few episodes.

I remember talking to some friends back then, and we agreed that she was too good for that show. Sometimes, you could tell even she thought she was too good for it, especially when was forced to converse with this silly animated computer character.

Anybody else know that show? It's driving me crazy that I can't remember the name.

from Salon 1997--

MSNBC--The Site

In my own defense, I'd like to point out I'm not the only one. True, Soledad hasn't inspired the obsessive fervor that surrounds such Net favorites as Gillian Anderson or Sandra Bullock — at least not yet. There's no newsgroup devoted to singing her praises; there are only two Web pages paying homage to her; and no one, as far as I can tell, is writing fan fiction detailing her imaginary adventures. But her fans, though perhaps small in number, are pretty fervent. She's gotten, for better or worse, the attention of a certain number of frustrated teenage boys — so many of them, she says, were "posting perverted things about me" on her message boards on The Site that she shut them down for a time. (They're back up now, with better filtering software.)

But she's also turned the heads of a number of perfectly sensible adults of both sexes. On the online conferences of The Well, they've been particularly effusive in their praise. "I think Soledad is awesome," wrote one. "I love her slightly in-check cynicism, her well-honed bullshit detector and her genuine interest and intelligence. ... Attractive. Sharp ... She's a geekboy's dream." Another, an occasional contributor to these very pages, declared that "she's gone far beyond the status of mere Newsbabe. ... We are speaking of the first viable goddess icon of Net culture."

Her show was called "The Site" on MSNBC -- back when the "MS" in their name actually influenced their programming.

37. I'm not crazy about her

She used to be on our local news in The Bay Area. She always made mistakes like: "The plane's manifesto...," when she meant manifest, "The Register of Voters...," instead of registrar, etc. It's like she didn't comprehend what she was reading. I was shocked when she got on national news.
