New Corporate Healthcare Scam - Fining you for using benefits!
The company I work for has a new "adjustment" fee for our benefits!
If you have a working spouse and your spouse has benefits available at his/her company then my company charges you a fee for not getting off their benefits.
So lets say my spouse has an out of pocket expense of $500/month for healthcare at his company X. My company's out of pocket for healthcare is $300/month....but wait! my company has decided to assess a fee of $75 a month if you decide to use its benefits... so now instead of 300/month its 375/month!
While its still better to use my company's benefits...I am being assessed this fee of $900 a year because I wanted to make the fiscally prudent choice of taking the cheaper/better benefit.
Now imagine if this stupid concept grows! Companies will be assessing penalties to get you off their benefits which could really get out of hand.
It sounds to me like your company is taking advantage of you. As an individual you and your spouse should be able to get a good policy for a little over six hundred dollars a month.(Blue Cross) If it is through a company pool that should be cut to about four hundred dollars for your family. Ask about it.
2. Fricking crazy....we need Universal Health Care so much..
Insurance Companies providing Health Benefits just does not make any sense in this day. The insurance companies run these plans like Slums Lords running a casino. HMO's are on their way to the corporate dump cemetary. Or maybe we could re-vive Woolworth's and they could take care of HealthCare?
3. One more reason to take health care out of employer's hands
It's just turned into another way for them to snag a buck. Has anyone considered that the cost of products may actually go down if UHC was put into place? Oh yeah, it has. :)
