"Staying the Course" and "Steady Leadership"
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 11:13 AM by Beetwasher
I now believe it's true, the Chimp IS in fact running his own campaign, or making key decisions regarding it. I think the whoring out of 9/11 was something the Chimp felt was his due and no one could talk him out of it. And now this insistence on "staying the course" and "steadiness" is another blunder, IMO.

The new ABC/Washington Post Poll asks the following:

"Which of these two statements comes closest to your own views: A. After four years of George W. Bush, we need to elect a president who can set the nation in a new direction. B. We need to keep the country moving in the direction Bush has taken us." Same direction got 41 percent, new direction 57 percent."

Yet the Chimp campaign still insists on making his major campaign theme essentially "We're never wrong and we're not gonna change, so there!"

John Kerry is now saying this is not "steady leadership" it's "stubborn leadership" and he's absolutely right and with poll results like those in the ABC/WP poll he's going to win making that point.

Now they're going on a "Jobs and Trade Offensive". This is another incredible stinker of a decision. I have to think the Chimp is insisting on this. In the last week the new jobs report was dismal an that's an understatement. And today we learn the trade gap hit a record in January and that's WITH an incredibly weak dollar. And they're going on the offensive on these issues? :eyes: This reeks of amateur hour. It's like politics 101. "Hmmm, what's our weak point? Jobs and trade? Alright, let's go on the offensive about that!" There's no nuance, no thought, just rote. I mean to do this immediately after the awful jobs and trade report? Egads, someone should be fired, but it won't happen because he needs his yes-men to tell him how infallible he is.

They are digging their own graves and I really think it's because the Chimp is in fact making many of the decisions about the campaign and all his advisors are telling the emperor that his clothes are beautiful. Nobody is going to take away the Chimp-emperors god given right to whore out 9/11 and be a stubborn asshole about all of his other failed policies. As far as I'm concerned that's great, he's working for us. Nothing says "Out of Touch" more than insisting that you're right and staying the course when it's obvious to everyone you're a failure. Keep it up Chimpy, I'm loving your campaign so far!

1. I sensed this attitude during the Meet the Press interview...remember
his snotty little "I'm not gonna change, see?"
He really is so arrogant that he believes he can take what he likes as his due. I think the right-wing-controlled media can take some blame for his attitude, given the three-year honeymoon free pass they have handed him. His bewilderment over even being questioned by Russert (or anyone else for that matter) is very telling...he really seems to believe that anything that comes out of his mouth should be accepted immediately, no questions asked. And why shouldn't he? Most of the right-wing shills on the airwaves are too busy sucking up to do the job of investigative journalism.

because he NEVER talks to anyone or any audience that isn't totally scripted. His defeat is going to hit him like a blind punch because in his little world, all is well. I just hope they don't believe the polls and keep doing just what they are doing....
on edit: This is the choice:
"You can either reward George Bush's vision and let him make permanent and give these tax cuts to the wealthiest people in America and forget about prescription drugs and schools and other needs," he continued, "or you can roll back George Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest people in the country and invest in prescription drugs, education, jobs in America and be more fiscally responsible. That's the choices in this race, as clear as can be."
