Once Elected, What Will/Should Kerry Do About GITMO, PATRIOT Act?
Or Edwards, if that long shot happened.

This is probably not something that needs to be discussed as an election platform, but I've been wondering: what should Kerry do about the prisoners held at Gitmo? What action will he take to repeal the PATRIOT Act?

I admit I haven't checked Kerry's website for policy papers on this. Anyone else have a clue?

1. Didn't Kerry support....
the Patriot Act and what has Kerry done as a Senator about the Prisoners at Guantanamo? Kerry still supports the Patriot Act although he has been critical on a couple of points.

2. I'm voting on Tuesday

Was a Dean supporter and can still cast that vote as he is on the ballot. But was taking a closer look at Kerry and Edwards. May be a moot point, but I prefer to vote in the Primary for someone more closely aligned with my perspective.

Kerry has some fluffy stuff on his web site to say about Iraq, but little specificity outside of bringing in the UN. He does have some specific statements regarding Patriot act abuses and his plans, while not overwhelmingly soothing it was something.

Edwards seems to agree with some scaling back of the Justice Departments license to intimidate, but again, not particularly warm and fuzzy for me.

I not not seen or heard anyone taking a position regarding the GITMO perpetual detainees, and I would like to know what the positions are as well.

3. What should he do?
Guantanamo Prisoners: Give them a legal status consistant with international law.

PATRIOT Act: Examine each provision - find out which ones are redundant (and hence, should be repealed), which overstep the power we want the DoJ to have (and hence, should be repealed), and which are absolutely necessary in some cases (and hence, have strict limitations on them to only be used in those circumstances).
