A question for those knowledgeable in election law.

OK, so Nader says he's running again. But it's my impression that since he's not running as a candidate for a recognized party, he will have to qualify in each state to be on the ballot there.

If I'm right, he stands no chance of running in the general election, since he doesn't have the backing of the greens, and I don't see how he can get enough supporters in each state to do the footwork to raise enough signatures to qualify. Last time he ran there was a big deal of how he had the greens doing the groud pounding to get qualified.

Am I wrong? Can just anyone walk up and say "I want to be president, so put me on the ballot"?

1. It varies from state to state
In some states, it's easy -- for instance, in WI, where I live, he needs to get 2,000 signatures. A couple of volunteers (petitioners need to be WI voters) can easily accomplish that.

In Texas, he needs 65,000 -- not so easy.
