Both of my former Wing-nut brothers are fed up with * (Ohio report)
Recently was back home in Ohio visiting with my family. My two brothers who were rabid Limbaugh brainwashed Repubs are both disgusted with * and are going to vote for whoever the Dem nominee is. Since they are both in OH, I thought this was extremely interesting and important to the chance of a Dem winning Ohio. I haven't lived in the state for a long time, but it seemed to have gone increasingly conservative. A lot of folks there are disgusted and angry. Here are some quotes from my bro's that nearly knocked me to the floor.

- "I feel that, after 9-11, America was like a drunken college girl at spring break who finally sobered up and was shocked by who she slept with".

- "I don't listen to Rush anymore, it's all the same stuff and he's a frickin' drug addict"

- " * is taking this country to hell in a hand-basket"

- "I was screwed. I didn't know until I filled out my taxes that I had to count that child credit I got as income"

- "The only reason their talking about gay marriage is to appeal to the religious nuts"

- "They are going to try to paint Kerry as a wimpy liberal, but I don't think that will fly this time."

- "Can you f#$king believe that they want to count fast-food workers as manufacturers?"

This was just a few things that came up during our discussion. I was so happy to see my flesh and blood finally open their eyes and come back from the darkside. If Columbus, OH is a bell-weather, we could actually win OH and screw the deep-south.

5. I have a lot of relatives in Ohio.
My sister and her husband were bushbots, both now say they will vote for Kerry. My brother-in-law's parents and brother were also hardcore Republicans who say they will vote Democratic in 04 . That's 5 that I know of who have come out of the darkness....

Of course this North NE ohio....

6. Beg to Differ with you
Granted that Cincy is a bit on the conservative side, but you guys did at one time have Jerry Springer as mayor.

Bush's problem with OH is that he can't "play dress-up" his way out of reality. One of my brothers was recently laid off. He then started working for a company that had been a Columbus icon for over 50 years. That company has now been sold and a lot of the stores have closed. He was lucky and was hired by the company that bought out his store (they kept this particular store open under a different name). After working his entire life, he was forced to take a cut in pay, and was placed on a 90 day probationary period before he would qualify for health insurance.

Oh, and he wants to go back to teaching, but under the "every child left behind act"(ECLBA), he is required to have a Master's Degree. Of course, the unfunded mandate that is the ECLBA does not help him pay for his education.

That's the reality. No matter how much "make-up they put on the pig", *'s policies and recklessness keeps slapping people in the face. A lot of Buckeyes are starting to sober up.

3. If republicans are....
...fiscal conservatives, they have to oppose bush. If they value the Constitution, they have to oppose bush. If they are on a socio-economic scale ranking under ultra-rich, and have sons they don't want drafted to die for the petroleum by-product in the white house, they have to oppose bush.

4. A poll just showed Bush's approval rating at 49 percent
in Ohio. That's not good at all.

7. Same here in WV..........
letters to the Editor are running about 6:1 these days. My cousin from VA was in this last weekend who was gushing about GWB a few months ago is livid with him now as are her fellow Teachers where she works. They believe as I do that he is destroying the public schools on purpose. She has to buy all her own supplies which she doesn't mind to do for the kids but it's just the point. She teaches at a Technical school that, get this, has not had computers (for the students) for 2 years!! Very unhappy with the bush. In fact, that was what she wanted to talk about the whole time. I think she can be swayed to a good Dem!! hehehe She'll be back at Easter so I can work on her some more.

You know sometimes we think that DU doesn't really do anything to sway the public but let me tell ya I was able to roll off item after item re: bush and I had a lot more ready to go. Had I not been coming here and reading all the posts from you fine people, I may have known a few things but not to the extent I do now thanks to you guys:loveya: She's not my first convert though. There have been others. I love it when they say: "you were right!"

8. This Is A BIG Thing...
By bringing Ohio & West Virginia, along with keeping Michigan & Pennsylvania, who need the stinkin' south?

At this time I don't see * running away in any of the Blue states and is substantially behind in the biggies.

Monkeyboy came off as a moderate in 2000...now that facade is gone. He came off as being "honest"...that's now being ripped away. He came off as being a regular guy...the fine folks in Ohio are now seeing how he isn't sharing their pain.

I live in a highly Repugnican area...but in a safe Blue state...and there's a lot of angst here...I'm hoping that's spreading around the Midwest.
