possible solution to the problems with third parties
I've been thinking lately of way to voice once support for third parties without actually voting for them. The best idea I could think of would be some sort of database of people claiming they'd rather vote for someone else. Maybe start it out as a website that lets people say things like "i'd rather vote green" or "i'd rather vote libertarian" or whatever.
Have it also store a zip code and email address. Once the registration for a certain party gets to a certain point, it alerts all the people from the area affect on the list saying that they have a chance to win this year. The idea has a lot of flaws such as who would you trust to run it, how to trust that the people signing up weren't lying and how you'd get people to use it.
I think these problems could be worked through and the idea has a lot of potential. What do others here think of this kind of idea?
That's kinda the point of elections. That you vote for the person that you want to win. Where else in the world is it such a cut and dried 2 party system?
