So Leno's not a complete sell out
Jokes like this (from Leno) give me heart that the country's waking up.
"The White House is starting to backtrack a little bit on the whole National Guard thing. Like today they said that President Bush may not have actually attended the National Guard, but he did attend National Guard related program activities."

Thanks, Jay. This one was overdue.

1. not surprising at at all.
leno, letterman, conan and kilborn all routinely crack jokes about whoever and whatever is in the news.

some people think that if every monologue isn't filled from front to back with bush jokes that he's a right-wing conspirator drooling at the feet of this administration.

has anyone ever seen the guy who does bush impressions on his show? less than complimentary.

2. Leno is interviewed in the new Rolling Stone
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 09:17 PM by Cush
he says that he isn't Republican.

I remember reading in TV Guide shortly after 9/11 NBC told their shows not to make fun of Bush. And since NBC is owned by GE, I wouldn't be suprised if they kind of kept that pressure on certain folks.

8. His wife Mavis is a founder of the feminist majority....
...can't imagine him being anything but progressive. He does have a more moderate/older audience than Letterman...give him a break.

5. Exactly correct
Leno will support the Repug and he won't be too subtle about it.

I've always noticed, if he has a guest on critical of Bush*, he'll interject with a couple of buts, and wells, and excuses. If the guest is critical of a Democrat, he let's him have his say while giggling on the side.

Compare and contrast Bill Mahre vs. Dennis Miller as Leno guests.

7. oh common
these guys are comedians that have to do a 5-10 minute set every night. I don't think they are trying to pass some radical political agenda in their opening jokes. They are trying to make fun of whoever is in the news. Give 'em some slack :)
