Confederate Flag in response to King and the marches he put together. Every good ol' boy waved that flag in their face at every opportunity. What were they saying with the use of the flag? If it is only about heritage why was it even there. Was this the beginning of the tarnishment of the flag or is there a much longer history of its association with prejudice? I'm not even talking about the South supporting Slavery. I mean the use of the flag way past the Civil war to intimidate Blacks.

1. The confederate flag is blatantly racist.
Any claim that it is merely a cultural icon is disingenuous and cynical hypocrisy, if not out and out prevarication.

2. Yup.
It's like waving the swastika and claiming it's just pride in your germany ancestry and history.
