Boycott marriage in general!
Should the fundies seriously pursue their push for a "marriage amendments" I propose that we encourage a boycott of marriage altogether.

Civil Unions can exist between a man and a woman too. More and more states and private industries are funding benefits for life partners.
A couple can even have a ceremony without a marriage contract.

We need to take this opportunity to make our country more strongly identify the separation of religious and secular. Marriage is religious and should not even be a subject of law. Civil Union is secular and should be dealt with in that sector.

3. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I am not flip about this. I do believe we need a serious realignment of ideas in this country and I would have liked to have some more input on this.

4. Try explaining how this boycott would work
because I'm having trouble picturing it. That's why I didn't say anything else. I didn't think you were being flip; I just didn't feel there was enough to respond to - for me, personally, being the non-proponent of marriage that I am. I think of so-called gay marriage as a discrimination issue, and I think it's better addressed through actions like what is happening in San Francisco. I mean that's just freakin' huge, and I'm seriously admiring that mayor. How would your boycott work, and what would it achieve? Give people something to get their brains around, and maybe you'll get more than just lazy snotballs like me.

5. I like this Emma Goldman quote
I like this Emma Goldman quote:

"Love, the strongest and deepest element in all life, the harbinger of hope, of joy, of ecstasy; love, the freest, the most powerful moulder of human destiny; how can an all-compelling force be synonymous with that poor little State - and Church - begotten weed, marriage?"
