WH leaks to NYT -- a sign of despair?

Remember the button-down White House? Where the only leaks were the ones they thought would be politically beneficial? Check out all the folks who are now blabbing -- is the dam bursting?

<http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/30/politics/30ASSE.html?pagewanted=2&hp>

One White House official said Thursday that there was clearly a risk that an inquiry could spin out of control, exactly what many administration officials fear has happened to the inquiry into the Sept. 11 attacks.

Yet some officials are beginning to argue, in background conversations, that such an investigation is inevitable now that Dr. Kay has declared to the Senate that "we were almost all wrong."

...

Only Mr. Cheney, the man who made the most extensive claims about Iraq's readiness to strike out, has failed to back down publicly. Last Friday he was on the air again, talking about Mr. Hussein's mobile biological weapons units, which now appear, Dr. Kay says, to have had no such purpose.

"We'll have to get Cheney the new memo," one White House official said after Mr. Cheney's comments. "As soon as we write it."

1. bin laden
I also find it very interesting that they are now pushing a spring offensive, and how they will capture bin laden before the end of the year. I can't believe that people in this country cannot see through this crap. Why are they suddenly announcing this?

I wonder if anyone remembers a report which came out shortly after Bush took office, in which they said an office of disinformation was being created with this administration. They denied it, but everything that has transpired sure points to it.

The most important thing is for Democrats to be united...

They scrapped it after a public outcry, but the Office of Special Plans serves the same purpose. They just changed the title a bit.

3. No accountability for CEOs.
That's what is wrong with this country. Cheney pushed this war with information that he knew was not solid because he had an agenda. And now that he's caught, everyone is trying to give him room to walk away scott free.

What concerns me is how the CIA is allowing this to fall on their shoulders when there were reports just a few months ago that they were bullied into providing information that they didn't deem sound.
