'Ghosts' haunt capital --Neo-Confederates want plaques restored in TX
http://news.mysanantonio.com/story.cfm?xla=saen&xlb=180&xlc=1118857

The Sons of Confederate Veterans organization is pushing a lawsuit to restore plaques commemorating the Confederacy that were removed from the Texas Supreme Court building in 2000.

The removal came under then-Gov. George W. Bush, who as a presidential candidate managed to dampen the issue after a brief flare-up.

The case highlights the discord between those who say they want to honor the South's heritage and sacrifice, and those who say the South's heritage has been so tainted by slavery that the government shouldn't exalt it.

2. Confederacy = treason
imagine honoring people who hated America so much, that they took up arms agaisnt their fellows, to fight and kill for the "right" to LEAVE America and form their own country

never ceases to amaze me...

they have it all! :silly:

I should add, I'm from the south. The Confederate fetishists hate America. Period.

5. Before this blazes, remember, "Malice toward none..."
At the time people realized it was going to be necessary for the states in rebellion to be folded back into the Union.

I am not defending the Confederacy or slavery, only suggesting that the concept of Union is as important today as it was in the immediate aftermath of the war.

6. Meanwhile, restoration work is being performed...
on the statue of Benedict Arnold, and production has begun on construction of a giant memorial of Simon Legre. When told that Legre was a fictitious character, neoconfederates responded with, "go back to San Fransisco, commie, we're proud of our past, regardless of whether or not we made half of it up."
