Opinions please
Are the Clinton's keeping a low profile during the primaries hoping that Bush will get re-elected so that Hillary can run in 2008 or are they being typical politicians standing in the wings so they don't stand by the wrong person??

1. I doubt that they are laying low.
But we should know the answer after the primaries.

2. I think the idea the Clintons want 4 more years of bush* absolutely silly.
That is republican spin on the Democratic nomination process. They are staying out of the process and letting the people decide.

Who here thinks that the right spends WAY too muuch time thinking about the Clintons?

C'mon, people, he's not the president anymore. And Hillary is JUST a senator. These two don't hold NEARLY as much power as the right thinks.

It's hilarious that the right always thinks that WE are the "wacky conspiracy theorists" when I hear Rush, et al. spew nonsense like this all day every day. Who's the REAL conspiracy theorist here, hmmmmmmm?

Give it up.

4. The Clintons are private citizens the same as you and me.
Why do they have to do either of your ideas? They are private citizens and don't have to involve themselves in this election other than to vote.

5. The SILLIEST idea I've heard...repeatedly.
Hillary simply does not have a good enough like her/hate her ratio among voters. She's a smart woman, so I'm assuming she knows this. In addition, she's a woman. Don't kill the messenger here (although this is OLD news) but this society just isn't ready to elect a female President.

I really don't think there's anything to this.

6. The Clintons are shrewd political operatives
and they understand that their endorsement of any campaign would be trumpeted as a negative by the corporate owned media.

7. i think they are afraid to openly endorse
i think they are waiting to back the eventual candidate and they dont want to back someone who may not make it...especially since this is such a tight race btwn our candidate ALL of whom are better than bush

i do not personally like lieberman but i think he is less hateful than bush

8. This is a right wing trope
Has anybody any proof one way or the other?

This sort of argument works best if we all assume the Clintons are evil monsters who want to destroy America--as the right wing does. ANd I guess if you assume that, the idea that they would try to screw up the democratic presidential hopefuls isn't that hard to swallow. But I've never seen even a shred of proof.

10. not really a low profile
there's a report today that clinton is heading to capitol hill for a high-level strategy meeting with democrats.

it's from the post, yes, but includes this quote from daschle:

"I asked President Clinton to give us his observations about how we might work more closely together and also as to how we ought to look at our own responsibilities as we see them in creating our agenda this year."

11. Why is it that the right-wingers are so obsessed with the Clintons?
I only ever hear this talk of Hillary running for President coming out of the mouths of Republicans. It's very funny.
