I wouldn't want to live in Sudan.

2. But we must talk about Sudan

Tonight I want DUers to learn about the Horn of Africa.

3. Is Sudan the Horn of Africa....well, I have Sudanese neighbors..

...I was talking to one in the parking lot. She said the arabs killed her husband and alot of her family, and she ended up here as a refugee....she was taking the bus to work at fudruckers....

Andyway, that civil war has been going on for some time.

Sudan was sort of an interesting place. One of those subsahran sultanates, Darfur, was incoprorated into it. And it was the base for the Mahdi (we've all seen the movie Khartoum)....

I want to see Sudan someday.

6. I dont think its possible in Sudan due to the rapids...

there are a series of rapids on the upper Nile, called "cataracts", which I assume makes navigation pretty difficult.

5. Just one more of so many countries where

Moslem radicals have created carnage and run wild through a helpless population, in this case southern Christian Sudanese.

Some Moslems there still capture slaves in a trade they've been running for 1,000 years.

There was an interesting tv special not long ago about Manute Boll, and how he lost all his money supporting the Sudanese resistance.

Of the Christian south.

There are whole villages where there's not a man left alive.

BTW -- Manutte Boll was a basketball player a while back for those who are sportstically challenged.

into a Muslim north and Christian/Animist south. Although I don't know what sort of political unity there would be in the south. The south part has significant quantities of oil, from what I understand...
