| Why is Daschle still senate majority leader? |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 09:16 AM by Woodstock
On Diane Rehm someone was saying they gave Daschle the safe stuff to say in the SOTUS rebuttal. Because of his tough race in November. Nancy Pelosi got the hard hitting stuff, because she is in a safe district.
Now, this year is of the utmost importance to us. Can you imagine the Republican leaders playing it safe under such circumstances? They'd be going for the jugular on a daily basis. Bush has done SO much that can be vigorously criticized. But Daschle must bite his tongue to satisfy his conservative constituency. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE.
By any objective standards, one could not say Daschle has done an exemplary job. So why not let, for instance, Kennedy take over, at least until the election? He'd give them hell.

reminding South Dakotans that if he goes they won't get perks like a party leader can bring

|
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 09:20 AM by Woodstock
Sorry, that makes zero sense. He could do other things to win his own race other than tank the chance for a Democratic presidency and several other races that another more effective leader could help other Democrats win by being more effective.

just that that's why he was giving part of the rebuttal.
But honestly, the Rebuttal isn't so big a deal, most people don't watch it, and Pelosi covered the heavy0hitting stuff.
I'm more concerned with their absolutely horrible delivery

What a gutless turd.
If I voted for him, I wouldn't admit it in public.

|
coming out of her mouth. She looks like she's in a permanent state of being goosed.
And Daschle always seems medicated. Not an ounce of passion or rhetorical uplift between the two of them; that performance is our party's predicament in a nutshell: NO BALLS.

| 22. The SOTUS isn't the main point - look at the big picture |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 12:01 PM by Woodstock
The question was, why is he the senate minority leader?
The rebuttal was just an example of his situation restricting his effectiveness as leader of the Democratic party.
The bigger picture is far more important than a SOTUS rebuttal.

Daschle seems to think playing nice and kissing Bush's ass is a winning strategy, despite the enormous success Republicans have had playing dirty.

All they have to do is say, gee, this is how the other guys are playing.
They control all branches of government and we are dead in the water.
Hmmmm, maybe we could try some of that?

Both Pelosi (a candidate for awfulplasticsurgery.com site) and Daschle absolutely made me livid with their absurdly limp, weak rebuttal. I would have LOVED to see Kennedy!
Frankly I was more upset at Daschle than GWB. He's totally worthless, worse than worthless...he's the GOP's best friend. LOSE HIM!! NOW!

They are completely ineffective. In private industry, with results like that, they'd have gotten the heave ho long ago.

And same to post #6 to.
And do we WONDER why people SCREAM so often "WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS?" The question people should instead be asking is: "WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS' "
And I'm Lu Cifer and I'm back from the dead, chillin' at the beach down at Club Med

No wonder we lost in 2002.
The crop of Dems and their leader(besides Byrd and Pelosi) are Bush kissing GOP-lovers.

The last challenge he had was against Chris Dodd and I think that may have been 10 years ago.

He is the minority leader though and the other Senators like him there. They are closer to the battle so I defer to them.

I don't defer anything to them.
A lot of the Democratic base is unhappy with their performance. And things are going to get worse if we make a poor showing in November.
WE WANT A PARTY WITH A BACKBONE!
I defer nothing.

there was nothing the Dems could really say, they gave the chimp the patriot act and voted to let him invade Iraq, Bush had Daschle between a rock and a hard spot and he knew it.. it's too bad that a pic of Kennedys face couldn't have been flashed in front of Bush while he was lieing.
