Drudge has lost his effectiveness
it went out the window with his credibility that he lost yesterday, along with Lou Dobbs, who drank the same Koolaid that Drudge passed on to him.

Now, everytime I see a drudge headline, I will have to think, "Gee I wonder what key detail he left out to distort this one".

I'm not saying he had a lot of credibility to begin with, but yesterday really destroyed what little he had left.

I also wrote to CNN to suggest they stop calling it news and start calling it "entertainment" since they obviously adhere to no journalistic integrity.

1. You're just realizing he leaves out key details NOW?
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 04:37 PM by BurtWorm
He admitted long ago that he's 80% accurate. He admits that 20% of his stories are wrong!

PS: Sorry to be snippy. I was hoping you were saying something more like he's lost his influence than he's lost his credibility. He has no credibility.

4. yes
I'm not sure Drudge does.. he is more of just a gossip, he's a gabby queen.

In this case he was fed a distortion which he didn't check and he got totally burned like he never has before.

2. It's intellectually lazy
to lift stuff off of Drudge and then broadcast it as fact.

Of course "intellectually lazy" is a good description for the guy in the White House who they all seem to support so effortlessly.

6. Drudge isn't a journalist
I don't think he realizes it. He's just a muckraker. He admitted long ago that he NEVER checks facts. He thinks it's up to his readers to check them and has admitted that also.

7. Something of a disservice to muckrakers, perhaps?
Ida Tarbell exposed the crushing power of Standard Oil, and Upton Sinclair pulled the curtain back on the disgusting practices of the meat industry of 100 years ago.

Because they (and other) gutsy journalists went out, got the dirt, and backed up what they found with solid reporting and facts, we ended up with the FDA, the Sherman Antitrust Act and other legal protections.

"Muckraker" is an honorable journalistic name, and Drudge sure as hell doesn't deserve it. "Liemonger", "Phlegm-flinger", "Bile merchant", perhaps, but not muckraker! ;-)
