Dowd: Empire of Novices
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 10:31 PM by rmpalmer
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/03/opinion/03DOWD.html

The Bush foreign policy team always had contempt for Bill Clinton's herky-jerky, improvised interventions around the world. When it took control, it promised a global stewardship purring with gravity, finesse and farsightedness.

But now the Bush "dream team" is making the impetuous Clinton look like Rommel.

When your aim is remaking the Middle East, you don't want to get stuck making it up as you go along.

Even officials with a combined century of international experience can behave with jejeunosity — if they start believing their own spin.

The group that started out presuming it could shape the world is now getting shoved by the world.

• The Pentagon wanted to sideline the C.I.A. and State and run the war and reconstruction itself. Now, overwhelmed, the Pentagon's special operations chiefs were reduced to screening a 1965 movie, "The Battle of Algiers." last week, as David Ignatius reported in The Washington Post, to try to learn why the French suffered a colonial disaster in a guerrilla war against Muslims in Algiers.

1. Sometimes I think MoDo writes her columns just so she can
use words like "jejeunosity" - means childish or juvenile - to make the world believe that she is so smart and urbane.

She and the rest of the Times people, except Krugman, are partly responsible for AWOL and his cabal being in power. She's a media whore of the first degree.

2. She forgot "humble"
Bush also promised that he would pursue a "humble" foreign policy. Yet another lie...

6. I like Dowd
I'm a bigger Molly Ivins fan, but Dowd is good. I get over the shortcomings of most columnists by reading several papers a day, etc. I just wish we could get some true investigative journalists into the mainstream. Be nice to open up a paper or turn on the tv and see Greg Palast on regularly, but when the truth is an ugly thing, nobody really wants to know it. Not the people with the proper bank accounts anyway.

7. The Battle of Algiers
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for the laugh. They should get Rumdum, Dov, Perle, Witz and Feithdom to watch that. Then after that they should be forced to be imbedded bureaucrats on patrol in Bhagdad.

8. My dream is Wolfie running an American flag stand in Iraq
I dream about seeing that lying, fascist weasel selling those little American flags he promised us the Iraqis would be waving for our soldiers after we bombed their country. He should spend 12 hours a day in a hot dog cart converted into an American flag cart, on the streets of Baghdad, trying to sell American flags to Iraqis. He should put at least as much effort into it as he did on the Timmy Russert show selling the American public those little flags and the lies they represented.
