New Olbermann blog: Election can be overturned up to January 6th!

Great stuff on Keith Olbermann's newest blog entry. Even if Ohio certifies its electors on December 7th and the Electoral College votes for Bush on December 13th, it's not over.

Congress doesn't count those electoral votes until January 6th. But if enough voting irregularities are found through a recount or fraud investigations to change the outcome in Ohio, any Senator and Congressional member could object, forcing the joint meeting of Congress to stop and take votes separately. Olbermann thinks that even a partisan GOP'er would think twice about voting to seat a president who actually LOST the popular vote in Ohio.

His log also recounts new info on voting shenannigans in Florida, including "lost" absentee ballots suddenly turning up. Not counting those, Olbermann suggests voting irregularities previously reported could reduce Bush's lead in Florida to 90,000.

This is fantastic news. Imagine that -- Bush returns from Chile only to find out that there is a rising possibility that this election could be overturned not only in Ohio but in Florida as well. Don't want it in the media too much, or it will lose its potential impact. And we'll all sound like sore-losers if we talk it up too much without overwhelming evidence.

At the same time however, I don't want the media to be completely hushed. If a big story breaks on Jan 3, all it would take is for Scott Peterson to file an appeal or for Janet Jackson to show her other boob on Jan 4, and our big story is dead.

(Part of me wonders what would happen if something were to break after Jan 6, even after the inauguration on Jan 20. What would it be like for America to know we're facing four years of a proven-illegitimate president? Die-hards will defend him no matter what, but it sure would rally the opposition. Rally them to what, that's really the big question!)

has been been filing suits in Fla re: the e-vote. He has, along with several others, filed a complaint with the GAO immediately after the election. This election is different than Gore vs Bush. There is no Monica Lewinski etc. Even if Kerry is legally excluded (can't see why?) I think some of the Blue State Senators might come forward, let's say Senator Kennedy?

In these super-heated partisan times, it may seem like just another prospective process decided by majority rule instead of fact. But envision the far-fetched scenario of some dramatic, conclusive new result from Ohio turning up around, say, January 4th. What congressman or senator in his right mind would vote to seat the candidate who lost the popular vote in Ohio? <end snip

that voters disenfranchised, machines wrong or manipulated, lack of transparency, inefficiency, and (hopefully) outright fraud has made this election a farce. Then it has to be repeated over and over and over again in the simplest terms until every Bush voter understands it--that they were really unwitting accessories to a CRIME.

My best scenario is to have enough good evidence collected that the lawyers can take to a judge and file suit alleging fraud, thereby getting the judge to issue an injunction against the electors meeting on December 13.

All you need - I would guess - would be to have this happen in one state, and, conceivably, you could paralyze the whole electoral process.

What's really great about this is that it's never happened before - as far as I know - and that means JK would be making history while taking down Fuckface.

Once you can legitimately allege fraud in the voting process, I'm telling you, the system shuts down. And, anyone who would dare to try to override this - and you know the rightwingnuts Republicans wouldn't hesitate to try to do it - would so easily be branded a traitor to the American way of justice.

in 2000, that it would have been impossible to get anything done properly once the Florida matter was taken out of the hands of their Supreme Court. (Violating the Constitution, I'd like to remind everyone.)

This time around, the groundwork that I suspect is being laid will present a completely different scenario, and I think that will make a huge difference.

I'm still reeling over Patrick Leahy's announcement that he would not object to Gonzales' nomination for AG. "I like him" Leahy said, and I just about fell over.

Later, I wondered exactly what he was doing. Now, I'm thinking there's a fox in the henhouse. If my guess is right, it was a very slick move on Leahy's part.

I'm sooooo glad to see this thread.

Earlier in the week, the posting about the Bloggermann was somewhat gloom and doom: Don't know if he's trustworthy, we've been screwed by the media before, yadda, yadda.

Keith is the only person I've seen in print who consistently keeps this subject top-of-mind. As for an earlier post about him not wanting feedback, I am of the opinion that we should continue to send him our thanks, new information, and encouragement.

He has proven, to me, that as long as it's important to us he will continue to make it a top priority.

Just my 2 cents.

I talked to a NY Newsday columnist yesterday and he said at first he thought it was a non-story, but now he is watching closely. The media is scared to report until concrete facts come in, and I think it's because in part, the blogosphere is keeping them on their toes. They don't want another Rather-Gate.
