Dowd: The Red Zone (MoDo Rips Bush)
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/04/opinion/04dowd.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&position=

<snip>

W. doesn't see division as a danger. He sees it as a wingman.

The president got re-elected by dividing the country along fault lines of fear, intolerance, ignorance and religious rule. He doesn't want to heal rifts; he wants to bring any riffraff who disagree to heel.

W. ran a jihad in America so he can fight one in Iraq - drawing a devoted flock of evangelicals, or "values voters," as they call themselves, to the polls by opposing abortion, suffocating stem cell research and supporting a constitutional amendment against gay marriage.

Mr. Bush, whose administration drummed up fake evidence to trick us into war with Iraq, sticking our troops in an immoral position with no exit strategy, won on "moral issues."

The president says he's "humbled" and wants to reach out to the whole country. What humbug. The Bushes are always gracious until they don't get their way. If W. didn't reach out after the last election, which he barely grabbed, why would he reach out now that he has what Dick Cheney calls a "broad, nationwide victory"?

1. Maureen Dowd has said it exactly right!
Bush is a divider, and a bully, and a liar and a phony religionist (my word), and will do NOTHING to heal or help America.

2. Damn -- I hate to say this -- but she is right on target

This sentence stands out for me -- and defines the bushies:

"The Bushes are always gracious until they don't get their way."

But the slut just had to get a dig in toward Senator Clinton.

4. Too little too late
Didn't we all know this stuff about Bush a long time ago? I'm glad she finally had her epiphany but she's only catching up.

10. Division is good.
What's wrong with being divided? In and of itself, there's no danger in having a difference of opinion. The only problem is the power certain people have to impose their opinions on everyone else. Such is the nature of our political system currently. It was never supposed to be this way. This is one reason the government's powers should be limited.

But that's besides the point. Isn't presidential power more dangerous when we are you united behind him, rather than divided and resistant? I tend to think so, as more "unity" usually leads to more war more government oppression of ever shrinking political minorities etc.

Division is healthy and good for freedom. We could use another dose of it.
