OVERZEALOUS SUPPORTERS MIGHT STEER VOTE IN WRONG DIRECTION

Sun Sep 12, 3:04 AM ET

By David M. Shribman

The people who are moved by their contempt for George W. Bush could find themselves in the position of doing a lot to help George W. Bush this fall.

David Shribman

And the people who feel the same sentiment for John F. Kerry could do a lot to elect the Democratic nominee.

All that may seem unlikely on the surface, but the way Bush opponents channel their dislike for the president will go a long way toward determining whether he wins a second term or finds an uneasy, unexpected retirement in Crawford, Texas. And the way Kerry opponents channel their fury toward Kerry could help determine whether he becomes yet another Bay State politician to seek the White House and fail.

This is the first campaign of a generation in which the conduct and strategic choices of both candidates' supporters could shape the outcome.

1. Let's see...by that logic I might expect that KERRY WINS!!
Woohoo It occured to me today, after watching the most aggregious, hate filled, foaming at the mouth debate on C-span between the SBVFT/VVFT and another veteran's group representative how was not anti kerry but pro veteran. The two of them nearly came to blows on live TV!! It was so filled with spitting animosity, all from the flaming bunghole on the "Reicht" (repug)

I was thinking that maybe, just maybe part of Kerry's strategy is to let the Bush camp show it's ugly face with all it's hatred and vitriolic language FIRST, pause, then LET 'EM HAVE IT.

The old addage: 'let them hang themselves with their own rope' comes to mind.

We shall see.

2. This is Why Some of Us Don't Go Canvassing for Kerry
The people I can connect with are already going to vote for Kerry.
I have had no success whatsoever in convincing the others.
To be sure, there are not many Bush*supporters in the Bay Area,
so I don't get much practice.

It is probably better for me to give money to Texans for Truth
and MoveOn rather than spend it flying to swing states and trying
to talk people into voting for Kerry. Others' mileage may vary.

3. I do some phone canvassing
I have talked with many persons who don't like Kerry, but like Bush even less. I leave big messages on these persons files. Don't call back, not real committed and don't "bother" them to the other side.
