Dowd: Breck Girl Takes On Dr. No (MoDo has poison pen out for Teresa)
Click the link for MoDo's idiotic dissing of Teresa - at least she really sharpens her claws for Chimpy and Potty Mouth.

<snip>

It's hilarious that the Republicans are trying to paint their ticket as the more optimistic one.

Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush radiate negativity, even as Mr. Edwards and his photogenic blond kids glow for the cameras. Dick Cheney glowers for the camera, a Dr. No with a dark vision that has resulted in a gigantic global mess. (When he was stopped by applause at a campaign stop in Altoona, Pa., on Sunday, he asked, "You guys want to hear this speech or not?")

Unfortunately for this White House, it is Mr. Edwards's great talent to talk about the class warfare of "two Americas" in a sunny way. The Breck Girl is already getting under the Boy King's thin skin.

President Bush should have easily knocked a question about Mr. Edwards — nicknamed the Breck Girl by Bush officials — out of the park. But he whiffed. Steve Holland of Reuters noted that Senator Edwards was being described "as charming, engaging, a nimble campaigner, a populist and even sexy. How does he stack up against Dick Cheney?"

W. should have given a sly smile and drawled, "You mean you don't find Vice sexy?" Instead, he looked irritated and spit out his answer: "Dick Cheney can be president." Indeed, he already is.

2. MoDo is so jealous of Mrs. Kerry because she can afford not to
give a Cheney for the likes of Ms. MoDo. You can hear the envy dripping from her. She cannot believe that Mrs. Kerry will not even bother reading her column, and if she does, she will go to her foundation to HELP people and not worry about MoDo.

The rest of the article is an awful critique of a show that was absolutely charming. How poisinous can she be towards the LIBERALS?

4. Reminds me of a Mel Brooks line:
MoDo: "The peasants are revolting!"

H.R.H. Dick: "Yeah, they stink on ice."

6. Except for her talent,

MoDo would be a nonentity. I have very mixed feelings about her, about 75% negative, 25% positive. The negative ones spring from my dislike of the way she appraises many women, especially political wives in an insulting, sexist manner that would be shot down immediately if she were a man. She did the same with Hillary of course. I agree that it seems to be based in envy. The positive feelings are based upon her talent as a writer, which I very much envy, and her brilliant skewering of the repukes when she's in the mood.

8. what the Kerry team needs to do....
is get MoDo to sit down with John Edwards for a little set-to. Edwards will smile, look her right in the eyes, answer her questions with dignity and charm, maybe even call her darlin' and melt her tiny black heart.

9. Maureen's column is really lame. It seems to consist entirely of her
being bitchy in a semi-clever way. It's all attitude with very little substance. Was it always like this?

In a campaign of such monumental importance it's really incredible that she should still focus on the superficial crap that she does.

To me, it's really an embarrassment on the NY Times to have her as a featured Op/Ed page columnist. But then again, I feel that they should be similarly embarrassed about Tom Friedman, David Brooks, William Safire, and Judith Miller too.
