Most of us realize Wisconsin is changing from a blue state to a red one and that makes some people upset.
But is it really time to call out the National Guard?
The latest "red state" proposal from Gov. Scott Walker was a plan to take away most collective bargaining rights for most state workers, including prison guards. Anticipating a strong reaction from union officials and members, Walker also decided to reveal he had already alerted the National Guard to prepare for any possible problems with upset union workers, particularly in the case of walk-outs or a work stoppage.
It was a remarkable statement from a new governor about a tactic most voters think of as a last resort to be used in case of extreme weather conditions or cases of civil unrest. Frankly, for anyone who remembers the 1967 riots in Milwaukee, calling out the National Guard is nothing to be taken lightly.
(Take note: This is another Black History Month lesson for some of you.)
