Four pieces of news today about the tax debate leads me to the modest conclusion that America -- or at least the capital that governs in its name -- has gone entirely, unmistakably and undeniably batshit crazy.

1. We just had an election that focused intently on the problems that come with a growing national deficit and debt. Correspondingly, almost every major poll after the election shows the majority of the country therefore doesn't want to extend Bush tax cuts on income above $250,000 a year. Nonetheless, a Democratic president who won the biggest electoral landslide in contemporary history on a promise to rescind those tax cuts -- that same president is now pushing to extend those very tax cuts, thus seriously increasing the national deficit/debt.

1. This decision adds another $700 Billion that will need to be paid for
Another thing that will happen because Democrats are folding the rich getting tax breaks is if the Economy gets better the Republicans will take credit and if it gets worse they will just blame democrats, nothing they have done.

They are now gong to say the national debt is higher then say they need to cut Social security.

This decision adds another $700 Billion that will need to be paid for, oh well take it from the poor, old and needy.

2. You're assuming that the extension will be permanent.
I'm not saying that won't happen, but the agreement is only for two years. This issue will be revisited in 2012. Then Obama will have another chance to extend all the tax cuts or let them all expire, or negotiate another "compromise."

if Obama (as he states)is protecting the middle class, the ReThugs are continuing to protect corporations, rich, uber rich, millionaires/billionaires--but after 8 yrs of Bush and 3 decades of ReThug presidents, there is no middle class left--so for the GOP it has been a ceaseless win/win. Essentially, what's left of a middle class in America has been continually put in a position (while paying their slave taxes to the Fed)of 'begging the rich' (represented by the GOP gang) for the last scraps of food from the table of big government and the poor have always been stuck in this hopeless, undignified rut.
-The GOP has gone so far as to threaten denial of unemployment benefits that 'have already been PAID INTO' by the (slave) workers in America, as if the Fed were giving the 'gift' of unemployment extension during a recession?!!
If ever we needed a Charles Dickens to scream from the pulpit making the case for 'the people's' rights and dignity, it's now! In the usual spirit of F/U @Christmas (or anytime) the ReTHUGs mantra to Americans they REFUSE to represent: "Are there no prisons, no workhouses?"
