Supreme Court Fails Working Families, Sets Path for Border to Open
Supreme Court Fails Working Families, Sets Path for Border to Open to Unsafe Trucks

WASHINGTON
June 7
/PRNewswire/

The United States Supreme Court today set back efforts by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union and its allies to keep unsafe, unregulated Mexican trucks off our nation's highways.
By overturning a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, this opinion clears the path for the Bush Administration to allow Mexican trucks to travel throughout the United States.

"By allowing the Bush Administration to move forward with its plan to open the border, this decision represents a setback for all who advocate for safe roads, clean air, and a secure America," said Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa. "The Administration's ongoing push to open the border not only demonstrates a gross disregard for highway safety and the environment -- it belies the President's continued disregard for the health and welfare of
Latino families living in the border region."

1. I do believe that outsourcing jobs is a bigger problem.
Bush needs to keep the terrorism flowing over the borders
just so "he" can stay in business.

2. Teamsters Union supported a number of Republicans
The Teamsters Union supported a number of Republicans including Nixon and Reagan. Wonder if Teamsters actually thought that such support would result in this payback. I wonder if the run-of-the-mill Teamster remembers that.

4. I lived there. The trucks are not safe! The drivers are undercompensated
and would probably take bribes to bring a terrorist accross the border. That Bu$h idiot is not making us safe. He is making our country less safe! Our borders are open to anyone who can get accross.

5. Right Wing and SC
These people don't care a rat's ass about the American people.

How many examples do we need?

7. You can't blame this one on the right wing
The Supreme Court decision was unanimous. Even the liberal ones supported this.

6. it is really a matter of "who owns America"
I maintain that American citizens own America, and just as business owners are entitled to the benefits of ownership, we American citizens should be entitled to any wages earned on American soil. Mexicans have no right to make money here in America.

The Democrats and Republican ruling elite and the corporate media say that no one owns America, and they use their clout and money to get the lion's share of the benefits of America.

9. "Mexicans have no right to make money here in America?"
Does that include those who are here legally working jobs that Americans don't want? Should we send them all back?

10. Perhaps I can rephrase - 4.5 million additional trucks, with drivers
4.5 million trucks from Mexico, with drivers who work cheaper than American drivers.

American trucking companies are already buying Mexican trucking companies.

If the costs are cheaper, and the regulations in Mexico more lax, what course will American business take? Will they continue to employ more costly labor and maintenance in America, or will they outsource to a company based in Mexico?

How many Americans are employed as truckers? I imagine that 4.5 million cheaper trucks, drivers, and maintenance will make a sizeable dent in the number of jobs available to American truckers and mechanics.

12. maybe if you interrogate me with extra zeal, you can make me confess to...
....racism. Jah?! Ve haf vays of maykink you talk! Jah!

Look, I just would like to make America into a country owned by its citizens. Period. When a business is owned by its owners, the owners are entitled to the benefits of ownership.

I really hope you get my analogy.

It is about who owns America. Once we establish that, we can proceed from there. Details, details, etc...

BTW, I think I clocked your knee jerking at about 120 mph! Great work! You can make the big leagues with that kind of speed!
