Boehner: Wall Street Reform Should Be Repealed - TPM
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/boehner-wall-street-reform-ought-to-be-repealed.php?ref=tn

They're not campaigning on it in earnest -- at least not yet -- but Republican leaders say that, given the power, they would like to do away with Wall Street reform much like they have already discussed repealing health care reform.

"I think it ought to be repealed," said House Minority Leader John Boehner, in response to a question from TPMDC, at his weekly press conference this morning.

One of his top lieutenants, Republican Conference Chair Mike Pence agrees. "We hope falters so we can start over," Pence told TPMDC yesterday. "I think the reason you're not hearing talk about efforts to repeal the permanent bailout authority is because the bill hasn't passed yet."

The Senate is expected to pass the final bill and send it off to the President this afternoon. But, despite Republican posturing, the President's signature isn't likely to touch off another broad GOP push for repeal. Unlike health care reform, Wall Street reform is broadly popular -- even with some in the GOP base. The problem for Republicans is that they've dug in deeply, railing against what they call a "permanent bailout bill." It stands to reason that, if the bill truly does institutionalize bailouts, Republicans would want to repeal it. But some aren't willing to say that too loudly.

Can we do another junk shot into the Deep Horizon well and put all the Republicans in with the other waste material??

1. This is why you
never, ever do bipartisanship with the Republicans. They have an agenda and they don't veer away from it for anybody. If they appear to compromise it is only a temporary step to them getting their way 100%. Before we can move forward in this country we have to break these people (the current neo-con, corporatist, con-men) because otherwise we will get nothing done that is actually worth getting done.

2. I don't understand for the life of me
The republicans have had since 1994 til 2006 where they controlled the senate. None of the sweeping bills the Democrats were EVEN DISCUSSED during that period. BUT now they are twisting their shorts and messing their pants trying to convince the country THEY could have done better in composing these bills.

Answer me this, who in the world except the tea bags and the other crazy republicans would believe this crap.

3. It's hard work being John Boehner
Hang in there, it's almost time for happy hour, John.
