RUDE PUNDIT: Toy Story 3 explains Current Conservative Politics
Goddammit. Now I gotta go see this stupid movie.

Ultimately, Lotso (as he's called) represents the genial yet ultimately sinister and power-mad face of the Republican Party and, indeed, contemporary conservatism. Promising a happier day for all cast-off toys and fooling them into trusting him, Lotso has a true goal to repress large numbers of the toys in order to maintain control and comfort for himself and those that he deems worthy. Hell, he even talks like Haley Barbour or any number of good ol' boys. The unworthy toys, consigned to the toddler room (as opposed to the older kids' room), are told that they can work their way to success and pleasure, even though the system is rigged for them to fail and stay in their harsh, awful jobs.

1. Saw it yesterday. Excellent.
Saw it in 3-D, but honestly, the animation is so good that I recommend you save the extra money. Doesn't really add much.

Anyway, it's the most mature of the Toy Story movies. Not sure it's even appropriate for little ones; it has some scary stuff and some moments that kids just won't get.

Loved the Ken and Barbie moments; some thoughtful stuff there. And when Buzz is switched to Spanish mode, hilarity ensues. But Lotso is indeed scary. Very sad, too - like many Repukes who deny humanity.

Recommended.

5. Please leave politics out of Toy Story
its a great movie that shouldn't be tainted with partisan bickering.

7. Welcome to DU. This is a political site.
Go somewhere else if you don't like it.

9. the very term ''partisan bickering'' makes me wonder why you would be on a political site left or
right.

Ideas have consequences.

Also, 99% of the time when both parties agree in Washington, the middle and working class get screwed, so ''partisan bickering'' is the only way anything good can happen.

11. Nonsense. There's no subject that can't
be made more interesting by tainting it with political bickering.

2. Now I will, too.
Who knew that kids were being taught 'good stuff' by Pixar.

I was hoping 'Avatar' would have a big effect on people, but I guess not.

Maybe it would have, if it hadn't been such a shitty movie.

8. Totally agree.
It sucked. James Cameron is good on special effects, and has no clue on plot.

10. The message was
good....anti-war and tolerance. If you think that movie was bad, what do you think is decent?

The movie was seen by more people than any other.

14. The message didn't make-up for the shitty plot....
One-dimensional characters and phoned-in acting.

You can get the same message from much better movies then "Dances with Wolves/Ferngully in space".

17. OK, Ebert....
go write your own movie.

Many people, obviously, disagreed with you on 'Avatar.'

The characters seemed 2-D to me....I couldn't afford the 3-D.:P

What is your favorite movie?

18. "Many people, obviously, disagreed with you on 'Avatar"
So? Doesn't mean it's good.

3-D is just another trap to squeeze more money out of you.

Cameron has done this before when he shat out Titanic. He's become a zealous convert to the temple of high-technology. Which sucks because he used make decent sci-fi flicks.

My favorite movies? Tough question, I'm a film buff. I also work at a theater.

Off the top of my head, Usual Suspects, Fallen, Glory, Saving Private Ryan, Dead trilogy (original), Jackie Brown, Amelie, The Professional, Rushmore, Ferris Bueller, To Kill a Mockingbird, anything by Hitchcock, True Romance, The Bad Lieutenant, Heat, Young Frankenstein, Empire Strikes Back, Alien, Aliens, Goonies, No Country for Old Men, American Beauty, The Royal Tenenbaums, Monster's Ball, Bad Santa, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, Toy Story 1-3, Pulp Fiction, Godfather 1-2, Network, Kramer vs. Kramer, Excalibur, Das Boot, All Quiet on the Western Front, Mad Max/Road Warrior, Boogie Nights, Invasion of the Body Snatchers 50s and 70s version, The Day the Earth Stood Still (original), The Wizard of Oz, 2001, Goodfellas, L4yer Cake, Snatch, Witness.

I'm forgetting a bunch.

3. Maybe DUers in various places...
Should get together and see it in groups. When Lotso comes on, everybody start chanting "U. S. A. ... U. S. A. ... U. S. A."

13. That line about Ben Nelson is just so over the top!
"Democrat Ben Nelson, a man who always looks as if he just finished masturbating to kiddie war porn"

I am not sure if the new rules in place on DU will allow me to say if I actually agree, but I do.
