ON PERSONAL FREEDOMS
GOP runs amok

May 29, 2004

Didn't the Republican Party used to talk about getting the government off the backs of the people? Wasn't it Republicans who wanted to devolve power to the states? If they still believe those things, somebody needs to tell the Republican occupant of the White House.

The Bush administration has intruded into death, sickness and marriage - the most intimate matters imaginable - in ways that trample the will of voters and state courts. That's not just big government; it's big brother government.

1. And that document sometimes referred to as the Bill of Rights: but
never forget collectively they are sometimes willing to spend several hundred thousand dollars to get even a nonviolent marijuana offender off the streets and in prison for decades.
